Fortis Flieger F-39. IMHO, a cool modern take on the Flieger

I have my first Fortis to post. A Flieger F-39.
I don't think one can go too wrong with either available colors. And, I was originally going to go for the lovely vertically brushed midnight blue dial version. But, I ultimately chose the black dial variant. I just wanted the most no-nonsense serious tool watch vibe. Something, I imagine, that a modern jet fighter pilot might wear with him (or her) inside the cockpit.
I had been contemplating a pilot watch for a while.  I like classic Flieger A and B dial designs of WW2 origin. But, I couldn't see myself committing to either one... for lack of a better term, they seem a bit too basic for me.
I think this Fortis Flieger F-39 does a great job of reinterpreting the classic Flieger elements, As well as mixing some of it's own contributions and modernizing the design for now and the foreseeable future.

It's a very cool watch, I had considered one when they came out, but I already have a DS30 to fill the modern pilot's watch void.

I also really like the look of these, and considered one, but the lugs seemed very long for its size. How does it fit?

This watch is an absolute killer!

do you mind sharing your wrist size?

Love the look of this, but have to agree with @gbelleh that the lug length looks like it could be an issue. I'd like to add a Fortis to my collection. They give me the same vibe as Sinn watches, and Sinn is one of my favourite brands.

I would say if you've any experience with Glycine combat sub or airman, they can both have seemingly long lugs. But, they curve and angle down very well and generally hug the wrist comfortably. Little to know gap. This is coming from someone with just under 7" wrist size.

Just under 7".. 6.875" to be exact last I measured.

Here's an angle on how the watch wears on my 6.875" wrist. It hugs the wrist pretty well. I never find that I have to adjust nor re-center the watch head on my wrist. It always seems to stay centered in the right spot. And, it's very comfortable. Notice how inboard the female endlinks downturn from the case. It's really quite articulate and the actual lug to lug is actually probably a little bit shorter than it may seem like.

Thanks for the explanation. That case and bracelet look incredibly rugged. Definitely looks like a well built watch!

Yes, if you ever have a chance to check one out, I think you feel that it's make is very high quality. The bezel action is super excellent also with 24 stops bidirectional rotation

Looks good on your wrist!

It would probably be just a little bit too long on my 6,5" wrist.

No way to tell before I try it on, but chances are slim that it would suit me 😢

If you have a Wind-Up show nearby  you can go to and check out in person. That's how I tried and decided it would work. But, if not, kind of hard to know until after bought as that may be only way to get one in hands. I am not aware of any retailers in the US, for example. Although, WatchBuys used to sell them. But, not anymore.

Killer looking watch. How's the lume, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks. The lume is excellent. I'd say it's at least as good as an good Seiko Lumibrite.. idk, possibly a tad better cause it's like a small block of lume. Very reactive and long lasting. Perhaps it's it's natural daytime greenish color, but, it still kind of looks lumed in moderately shaded conditions.
