Seiko bros, need your help

Looking into getting my first Seiko. SKX are interesting to me. What would you recommend?

Get one! I love mine, swapped the bezel for a silver 12 hour.

Not a SKX... They may have been a good value at one time (pre-2019), but are extremely overpriced now.

If you're set on Seiko you're more likely to get a reasonable deal on a "5KX" like the SRPD55 or SRPD53.

I'm not sure how new to the hobby you are, but as a piece of advice, remember that you wear a physical object, not "heritage", "history", or "horological significance". The SKX was good in the 2000s, but by the late 2010s it was already pretty "meh", regardless of the YouTube hype.

I have an SKX that I got when they were fairly cheap. I love it as my first mechanical watch, but it’s not great. The fact you have to shake it to get it going was fine at $200 in prior years when there weren’t so many cheap Chinese watches out there. Now it’s just annoying. I think for the money it should at least have an NH35 and sapphire (like all the micros do at this price).

So yeah, I’d think about the 5KX or something from orient.

Yes would recommend they are easy to repair mod or upgrade the movement if needed just get an original one first so if you do change anything you can keep the original parts to restore back if needed. Top one original and the other has NH36 upgrade with aftermarket crown

You could also consider the new SSK line with GMT 😊

They are stunning watches and looks even better in person 👍

Seiko 5 Sports broadens its horizons with a new GMT series.

^This would be my shout if you want the SKX look, otherwise I would suggest a Turtle.

Thanks for this. This helps a lot.
