Trying the new Titanium Zulu Time 39mm

Lucky to get my hands on the new Zulu Time 39mm collaboration with Hodinkee. There's certainly aspects that set this apart from the other 39mm timepieces that look similar on the market. The grade 5 titanium is the first thing. The manufacturing and finishing are very impressive. It also has a great familiar aesthetic - some have already expressed that it's almost too familiar.

But unfortunately, I've decided not to keep it.

The well-known feature of titanium is that it's incredibly light. I also have a P39 in titanium. The difference between the two is the bracelet. The bracelet on this Zulu Time is light and feels cheap. Then there’s the clasp. First, the clasp is short so it doesn't provide much additional room for your hand when you take it on or off. And second, there's no microadjustment.

I enjoyed my time with it but it's onto the next for me.

Titanium is the material I know I should like but I can't get over how light it is. It's stupid I know. I like my watches like I like my women; bottom-heavy.

It's interesting because the weight of the P39 doesn't bother me. The t-fit clasp has many more components that make it feel more substantial and provide the extra bracelet adjustment.

I can see that. It's one thing to be light; another thing to be light AND unimpressive.

Glad i read about your experience. I was seriously considering picking one of these up. They do look exceptionally clean.

If it was in the next price bracket down, I'd see value in keeping it.

Funnily enough I feel the same. When the watch is too light, I just dun really bond with it.

I dislike titanium too, blummin' awful stuff - love it on my bike, but definitely not on my wrist!

This would’ve been extremely tempting to me had it been a little smaller. I love the look, and prefer this design to the Tudor Black Bay Pro (GMT). The only thing I would ask for is a “better” (more distinct) hour hand. Unfortunately the sub-39mm GMT market is absolutely tiny.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks too much like an Explorer 2 homage? I really like the Zulu time watch in blue and green but I’m not into this look.

I remember seeing this watch when I was just a one watch Casio collector. My old neighbor had one for him it was best titanium watch. All this time I thought it was spelled Long jeans.
