My first mechanical was an HMT too! It’s gonna sound really silly, but as an Indian who grew up in the States, I’m very Americanized, even by Indian-American standards so it was a very welcome addition to my personal heritage
The Indian market is so closed that the only way to get one is through a reseller on Ebay sadly. To buy from there at all you need a broker that doubles the cost.

Got lucky that my uncle lives in India…got it locally
Got this nearly 9years back … when HMT piolet was not known much in the market . Back when my collection was containing Japanese, Swiss and Chinese movements I wanted to have an Indian legacy.
This post has some amazing watches but also a disturbing amount of Left-Handed people.
Actually I don’t think so! It’s surprisingly common for Indians (even righties) to wear their watch on their right hand! My mom and sister do it and I’ve seen it in public

Mine was also an HMT. I don’t wear it very often, but I love its design and history.
Congrats! Enjoy it in good health.
Wow, HMTs are a rare sight, congratulations!! Mechanical watches will take you down an exciting path :)
My first mechanical was the standard entry into Swiss watches for many others: Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic

You can't judge it from photos -- I am a lefty but wear my watch on my left wrist -- it just feels more natural that way.
A grayish Citizen for my prima comunione, followed by a Rolex Date for my first (actually only) wedding approximately 30 yrs later
