Please help with feedback on this brand name idea

Hey everyone, over the past month I have done a few surveys on choosing a brand name for a watch accessories brand. I have finally landed on one that was not brought up in the surveys. I feel very strongly about this name and was looking for some feedback. The name is "Strada". "Strada" means "road" or "street" in Italian, which to me symbolizes a journey or exploration, the feeling and inspiration that watches bring to us as enthusiasts. Mostly looking for feedback or thoughts about how the name sounds and the inspiration behind it. Please keep in mind that there may well be other products out there with the word Strada. However, I have not found many. It doesn't particularly matter if the name has been used on another random unrelated product, as the brand starts to form it will take on an identity association of its own. Dove shampoo is different in the mind than Dove chocolate because each has a different association. (In case you did not see the first post - the brand will be innovatively designed high-quality straps, cases, accessories, etc., but with an old-school rock n' roll-inspired edge. Think unique "heritage" materials and design choices.)

I'm ambivalent. I don't think it rolls of the tongue in the right way*, but I know the word from the Ducati Multistrada model motorcycle.

I'm assuming it rhymes with Prada, same accenting and all?

If you were doing an automotive theme, I think it would be great but it kinda makes me think of Stratton. It doesnt really go with a "rock and roll" theme.

·

Strada sounds good, but a quick google search tells a watch brand with such name already exists.

https://www.shoplc.com/c/strada

·

It just makes me think of Stradivarius violins which is kinda at odds with the rock and roll vibe you seem to be going for

·

Depends where you market is Strada is a restaurant chain in the uk

·

For me it sounds to much like Strava. Which is a running app.

·

I'm good with it. To me it sounds quite masculine, "strident" maybe - probably the same root word.

The only Strada I know of is an Italian restaurant chain, which always seems upmarket despite being pretty standard fare, maybe it's the locations.

·

Unless there is some Italian connection with the brand, using an Italian world as the name comes across as a bit "try hard". Maybe something less "inspired" and more simple, like JR's Straps, Rock Straps, etc..

I only say this because using Strada is more likely to come across as a an attempt to evoke Italian leather products, and less an attempt to evoke memories of one's watch "journey".

If you're brand is Rock n roll inspired I would go with a more rock n roll name

·

Why an italian word? if you’re doing with a rock n roll edge, what’s the connection to itsly? Why not use an American name?

I’m not saying it doesn’t work, but I think of selling a product, you’re telling a story and I don’t understand how the two relate.

Never mind, I got the reference... Dire Straits. Clever haha

Meh. There's a lot of Strata being tossed around in the watch industry. So you may have some push from one of the other manufacturers or brands. Certainly doesn't say old school rock and roll which would lead me to suggest that you just call it old school rock and roll or old school. One name I like is Autobahn Watch Accessories or AWA. Anything starting with the letter A gets you higher up on any listings or Google searches, etc. Or at least in theory it does. Just my opinion. Take it for whatever it's worth. Good luck with your venture. I hope it works out great. Takes a lot of courage too to do something like that, so I wish you all the best.

Do you think the name needs to be directly related to that theme in order to make sense? I have debated that as well.

Thanks for sending this! I’m almost wondering if it is a cheap drop shipping brand that just auto generates the name you search, but it looks semi legit.

Friends have told me this as well. My thought is that the association would go away once someone saw the brand for what it was.

Interesting to note about the restaurant chain. Thanks for the feedback!

Tricky. 'Strada' is a chain of fairly low-rent Italian restaurants in the UK. On the other hand, 'La Strada' was a Fellini masterpiece. Seems like as a word it can appeal high low brow so perhaps as a brand name this could enjoy some broad appeal?

Interesting point, thanks!

I voted yes but of course I need to offer, Saxum. Rock in Latin since your going down that path.

Interesting one, thanks for the feedback!

Love the name, but could be an issue with SEO as it’s a common word and often associated with cars and Motorsport. Haven’t actually researched it but just my initial thought. Not sure how deep you’d want to dive into SEO and the like, but might be worth thinking about.

At the end of the day a name is just a name, if you deliver quality and service people will find you! Especially with us rooting you!

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Hey if you are passionate about it, then you should go for it.

Like others I am not compelled by the name, but I don't purchase products based on the brand name. If you produce superb watch straps and accessories they will stand on their own.

Please just don't rebrand some Aliexpress trash like so many others have done. We all know what's available on Aliexpress.

LOL very good points and don’t worry, I won’t be re branding Ali express stuff.

Great points, thanks!

Maybe "Strato" as in Stratocaster?

You’re getting me thinking 🤔

I think strada would need to be paired with something you know? Like “Strada Straps” or something.

Yeah not a bad idea!

Having now thought on this, I think you could open it to other languages, depending on the kind of sound you want the word to make. Strasse, for example, means the same in German and - putting aside that Germans are better known watchmakers - it's a softer sort of name, that rolls off the tongue. Strada, is a little harder. Which is ironic, because normally it's German that gets called the harsher and more brutal sounding of the two languages. Strasse can also be written, Straße, which might be a cool design feature.

Very interesting, I’ll think on this. Thanks!
