I hate three watch collections, but having at least thought for a good 2 minutes, I think the three categories would be:
A dress watch on a black leather band for those business events that require a suit and a serious expression. Here, my Hamilton, I think it's a Jazzmaster. Other watches in my collection that would work would be my Raymond Weil Freelancer or my Steinhart Metropole. Next would be . . .
A fairly robust knocking around watch. Good for hanging out, or those business events you could get away with sport coat or even more casual. Helps if it is fairly waterproof, who knows how that party will go. Finally, . . .
When you play actual sports with bats, balls and or falls you will need a plastic quartz beater that you don't care if it is destroyed. Here is one of a long line of Timex Expeditions in the "Resin" case. Added bonus, nice and light with the indiglo if the field lights really do turn off promptly at 10 pm.

I’d want a GMT
A chronograph (the dive style is an added bonus).
And a nice wearable field watch.
My three that will always stay with me.
Modern dive
Quartz beater
Vintage classic
Mine would be GADA, Diver, Whimsical
Great collection 👌🏻
My is wider but for a Trio I’d choose:
I have been working towards a 3WC for a while. I still own more watches, but as of now my "top 3" spots are:
Gada/Explorer 1 vibe
Field watch
Vintage / dress
That covers everything for me (especially if I sneak in a Casio World Timer) 🙂
