Planning on Modding!

Over the weekend I decided I would start up a new hobby of making watches. (Watch above is a Mod I purchased recently) I have had a few made for me and purchased a few mods and the whole thing has me wanting to do my own now. I don't want to get crappy tools and would like top notch tools and a great setup to begin with preferably that will be under $500. Maybe that's unrealistic? Love to hear your recommendations. I know I have a zillion YouTube videos to watch now! Again recommendations are very much welcome. It may take me a bit to get started because I want to really do it right. Guide me Obi-Wan. 💥

If you are going to just mod then $500 will get you most tools that you may need. If you are going to go further and learn watch servicing, this will be a good start.

Your gonna have loads of fun and at the same time anger and frustration, well at the start of your modding journey!

Your budget will get you some great tools, you don’t have to spend loads on them, more important focus on the right tools! start with the basics such as

  • Tweezers

  • Caseback removal tool

  • Movement holder

  • Some sort of magnification etc

Hand setting, cutting stems are possibly the hardest tasks to master but you soon pick it up, I have modded quartz and mech movement based watches. I would suggest you start dismantling cheap older models of each type to start to gain some experience but as the saying goes practice makes perfect.

Here’s my latest build I assembled tonight……… have fun and don’t forget there’s loads of YouTube vids and experienced crunchers you can get help from 👍🏻
