The Vostok Amphibia. A cult classic.

It’s my first post on here, and my first venture into social media since deleting the lot a few years back. Seems like a friendly place.

Welcome! My first automatic purchase was an amphibia scuba dude just before I joined watchcrunch. You will meet lots of friends here!

Welcome to the Crunch!

I was interested in picking up a pair of Vostoks, and then Russia went and decided that the world wasn’t in a bad enough place with COVID. Now I refuse to consider it until they pull out of Ukraine.

100% get that. When the invasion first happened I packed away this and my Raketa. Just didn’t feel right wearing them. After a while though I realised what I loved about them ( one was a gift from my parents and the other a restored vintage piece from a Ukrainian watchmaker) and that I’m not achieving anything by not wearing them.

I’d definitely struggle to justify buying a new one until the situation is resolved.

That’s a banger! Love the NATO.

Welcome to WC! A nice place indeed.

And a pretty red scubadude.

I have a 24-hour Komandirskie from a Ukranian seller that I don’t wear much these days, and a Soviet-era one that I love because I like to imagine the life of the original owner. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to remove and replace the stinky bracelet it came on.

If you already owned them, no harm, no foul. But I agree -- buying a new one right now is wholly off the table.

Cheers, seems great so far!

It wasn’t Sputnik by any chance was it? That’s where I got my raketa from. The komandirskies are cool, love the bezels they come with.

Nightmare, I’ve heard some horror stories about original vostock bracelets haha.

Got my Vostok Amphibia recently. Then I was waiting for a strap (because original rubber sucks).. And now I love this combo!

It was from eBay.

Someday will score one of those Raketa Big Zeros.

I WAS president of the high school Russian Club, after all…

Certainly is a cult classic, and a great way to start your crunch career. Yes there is certain bad vibes with Russian watches at the moment, let's call it Vostok guilt (got mine the day before the madman tried starting WW3, how's that for timing) and I must admit didn't wear it out, but it was 2nd hand off ebay so it has seen the light of day since. And I have bought one (for a gift) from a Ukrainian seller since, so hopefully back in the good books. Wear it well and welcome to the crunch🤗

Thank you, love how official crunch career sounds! Wow, yeah that timing sucks. Guilt is definitely the right word for it, took me ages to get over it, shows how personal the hobby is though.

I find myself very torn with Vostoks. I have a "Zissou" blue dial and sailboat dial which were my carefree beach watches. I have a quirky dress watch with unusual fancy lugs and 9 o'clock sub seconds too. Sadly they are now languishing unworn because of the Russian government's aggression. Doubly sad because videos of the factory show a skilled workforce doing their best.

The Zissou is one of my all time faves I think. Such a good film!

That’s good to hear, always been a little intimidated by watch forums!
