Spring Cleaning

I was just thinking about cleaning my watches and how to do so, when I wondered how often should I do this. So I pose the question to my fellow Crunchies; how often do you clean your watches?

I’ve never cleaned any of mine apart from wiping them off with a microfiber cloth when I notice dirt, fingerprints, water spots, etc.

Wipe mine off after wearing it with a micro cloth and back into watch box. If it looks like it needs a deep cleaning I do it. Deep clean with a moist cloth for finer pieces and soft tooth brush re-wipe and micro cloth dry. Divers/sports a little warm water and mild dish soup, brush rinse in warm water and micro cloth dry.

Normally I just use a bit of water and wipe mine down with a microfiber cloth. If it's really dirty I'll use a small dab of dish soap and gently scrub with an old tooth brush. Dental floss is handy for getting crud out of hard to reach crevices and from in-between bracelet links. As to how often you should do this, I guess it depends on what you expose your watches to during your day to day. I do a more in depth cleaning on my watches that get a lot of wrist time maybe a couple times a month. It varies.

I tend to do a fairly thorough cleaning every few months, using a drop of dish soap in a small bowl of water, along with a soft tooth brush. It can make a significant difference, and I'm often surprised at how a watch that I thought was reasonably clean looks after doing this.

If you own a T-shirt then you're all set.

It's steel and glass, for the most part, and doesn't require specialized care.

Sometimes soap and water and toothbrush are required. Otherwise, whatever you're wearing works for the daily dirt.

That's how I clean mine. I watched a few videos on some YouTube watch repair channels that makes me think I should do a bit more.

I'm going to step my routine up and do some deep cleaning of my pieces. (without destroying the finish)
