Went to a few high end watch boutiques in NYC

Was treated very nicely in all the boutiques I went into. Got to try on/handle a few “if I win big in the lottery” watches. And may have a grail on the way!?!

This Vacheron Constantin Malte in white gold is my favorite of the two.

I think the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6007G looks better in person than photos and I think it is a bit playful and I really like it for that.

It was fun to be treated nicely and to be allowed to handle the watches. I let the sales people know I was not in a position to buy but was dream building. They where happy to show me, to talk watches, offer beverages and comment on my watch t-shirts. I may have helped I knew a bit about the watches. One of the sales people though my red dial Christopher Ward was a red dial Rolex OP at first glance.

Not a watch from the trinity but a grail. I will reveal in the future, it may be after my Anniversary in August as I told my wife it would be good gift. 😎

My wife refuses to shop with me for anything I always announce quietly but with sincerity that while I am not merely kicking tires nobody is getting rich selling to me anytime soon. I usually get decent treatment.

Being honest upfront usually pays off.

We are going to be in Italy next month and I told my wife I was likely buying a Panerai while we were there. Yeah. That’s costing me a watch and a purse 😂😂😂

A purse for a watch seems a fair trade. 🙃

Seems like the luxury industry is supported by designer bags for the ladies, watches for the guys. A few years ago my wife and I took a fast weekend trip to Paris in time for their June sales, the Mrs works hard in finance and wanted a Goyard vinyl shoulder bag that is not available for sale in Canada. Interesting experience, customers queue waiting on the sidewalk until there is staff available to support the client, the ancient Goyard shop makes a modern LV boutique look almost low class!!! in comparison. The process of paying is interminable, the male clerk dressed simply in a smart fitting black suit makes a casual slightly mocking comment about my watch while he shows off his retro style steel Casio as being sufficient. I fire back that in Canada wearing a new old stock Casio is de rigueur while the retro ones are for high school girls. The guy is overjoyed that he has managed to bother me, haha. Shopping in Europe somehow feels different almost as if the locals are entertained by the spectacle of people travelling away from their own homes just to buy more stuff.

The best kind of shopping, trying out new things but having the bank account stay intact 👍

Love the VC's unique case shape

Will it be more efficient to shop for a Panerai watch in Italy? When we were in Paris, selection was amazing but I wasn’t comfortable dealing with the euro with regards to price back home in Canada. Ads no longer offer deals so it is academic as long as the experience is good. Good luck

Good point. The exchange rate to USD has narrowed, so the premium isn’t as bad as it has been. The real question is if the boutique is willing to discount. Being on their “home turf” so to speak, I’m hoping they will. If not, oh well I can buy it back home. But you better believe I’m going to try them all on!

Panerai watches are not for everyone but I am a fan, sort of they are expensive relative to what you receive. I will not but most of my Pam enthusiasts buddies buy pre owned.

Have they had any trouble with fakes? That’s what’s kept me away from the used market.

No they buy from good resellers.

No they buy from good resellers.

A young man who used to work for the Pam boutique claims 10% discount was available for the polite asking. I have thin skin and do not handle rejection well. I buy at full list from an ad that supports the purchase 100%

Interesting the Patek AD had a watch for sale!

I did really like it. Just not in the budget.

Did you make it to Bucherer? Located on 57th St in Manhattan. All the watches you can eat. https://www.bucherer.com/about-us/news/NewYork-TimeMachine.html

No, I did not make into their shop. I want to go back and hit the shops I did not visit. I hit Watches of Switzerland, Tiffany and Saks. Then a shop on the diamond district, I have to find the shop card to get the name.

Excellent watch crawl. I've been to the places you've mentioned and some of that stuff is out of reach for me. Still fun to fog up the display windows with bated breath 😜
