Mod Help!

This is the third time I've put together something using NH 35 movement, everything sourced from AliEx. Everything set and functioning outside the case. Inside and caseback closed, doesn't run and won't wind. I did not have an easy time cutting the stem, the case is also smaller than I've worked with before. Is it possible the rotor it too crowded to function correctly? Or more likely I need to replace and start over with the stem?

Hopefully I didn't bork the movement entirely. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

My first guess is that the stem is too short. I'm not sure if the crown is threaded. If not, you can test if the date/time changes.

Is there an addition spacer (white/flexible/cheap) used to hold the movement? They can interfere in a number of ways, blocking the rotor, or throwing off the vertical alignment.

Thanks! Crown is threaded. There was a spacer, but no way I could have used it, it's tight quarters in there. And as I type that I wonder if I just ended up with a different version than I ordered?

It is possible that you got the wrong parts. The fact that you can't use the spacer is a concern. If you pull the watch stem, and look at the crown tube: Is the opening in the movement for the watch stem perfectly aligned?

Do you have an extra watch stem?

Does it make a difference whether the caseback is lightly closed vs. fully tightened?

I would remove the movement from the case and check for functionality using the temporary stem the movement should have come with. Check that the hands move freely all the way around the dial and that the date changes around midnight. See if it winds and runs outside the case. Re-case the movement while it is running and watch carefully as it is inserted. You may find a clearance issue between the hands and crystal. Lastly, insert your cut stem and crown and check for functionality. If it continues to not wind at that point, then you have a stem that is either too short or is damaged in some way.

If movement, dial and hands work without case and and the hands don't match the case. Shure change stem. Welcome to frustration but you are very close to success

Just re-read the whole thing: The "won't wind" comment still brings me back to a stem issue. "Won't run" can have many issues, but "won't wind" doesn't have that many possible causes..

·

If the watch winds and runs outside of the case, either the stem is too short to wind inside the case, or the secondhand is touching the crystal and stops.

Could it be possible the main barrel is rubbing up against the inside of the case? Is the case maybe meant for a miyota instead of a Seiko?

Could you post some additional photos, some of the back and inside the case, how the movement is sitting etc
