Taking one watch on a 4 month trip overseas

Hi everyone

I'm flying to Singapore today for a four-month internship. I want to take one watch with me and I was set on taking the ginza alpinist, but then I wore my C65 dartmouth a bit and now I'm torn

Both are rugged and have a good water resistance (I'm gonna be swimming a lot), a great lume, are really enjoyable on wrist...

The alpinist is a bit dressier which is nice, its dial is exceptionnal (if I chose solely based on that it would be a no brainer) but I hate the bracelet which leaves me with the many rubber straps and leather straps I have in terms of options (leather straps might not be the way to go because of the weather though)

On the other hand I love wearing my CW, its bezel is super useful, and although I have fewer straps for it (1 leather strap, 1 marine nationale strap which is exceptionnal, a nice nato and the bracelet it came with), the fact that the bracelet is so good is a real game changer, that and the MN strap which is the most comfortable thing ever. It's cosc certified so it runs really well which is a + for a watch I'd wear every single day

So, which one would you choose ?

For me it’s the CW because I appreciate its more restrained dial and it’s (likely) more robust construction. Good luck on the adventure ahead 👍

The mat blue dial does let the indices and hands really shine !

To me the most underrated parts of the watch are its crystal which is gorgeous and super legible, and its construction which makes it wear like a <10mm thick watch

The one on the CW is incredible and the on-the-fly adjustment is incredibly useful (and a must in singapore i'm assuming)

But I mostly wear it on a WatchSteward MN strap because it is incredibly comfortable and it suits the watch perfectly (I dit another post on it)

The bracelet on the ginza alpinist though... Meh

Not that ugly but not very comfortable + there is a big gap at the clasp

I was team CW right away. There are few things as versatile as a simple diver. And now you are confirming my decision.

Also, the Watch Stewart strap is perfect. Nice package. 😍

Hello from Sunny Singapore! I hope you’ll enjoy your stay here!

Honestly, it’s bloody hot (and occasionally really rainy here), so avoid anything with a leather strap if you want to survive. I have a slight bias for the Ginza as it was one of those watches that I missed out on! I’d recommend the Seiko Ginza Alpinist on the metal bracelet. Else, the Zelos or Casio would also be practical options.

While you’re here, if you are itching to get a watch, I’d recommend “Hour Boutique” which is right in the heart of town. Great prices for Seiko, Tissot, Omega etc. It’s my go-to shop :)

Feel free to ask me anything else, I’d love to help out a fellow watch enthusiast!

I couldn’t be without a timer bezel, just too functional, so CW takes my vote, on bracelet for handling the weather and all that

·

I would choose the GS to own (v nice) but the CW to travel.

·

Wow this got really close !

Thanks everyone for your input, I'm heading to the airport

I ended up taking the CW as suggested by the poll

Tysm ! I will 100% check this store out, I plan on taking advantage of my stay to visit watch stores, even though I might not buy anything since I'm already waiting for a Furlan Marri x Time and Tide

That GS is wonderful ! But it being 57 years old I tend to baby it especially since the crystal is acrylic and it's not water resistant anymore

+ Wearing a leather strap by 30+ °C might not be the best idea

Buy a watch while out there, it will be a great reminder of your time there.

That was my initial plan, I wanted to buy an Omega 2230.50 or 2231.50 or an SBGX089 (I hadn't decided) and to take advantage of the lower consumption tax but then I couldn't resists preordering the furlan marri x time and tide watch

I'm weak x)

No, that's normal behaviour surely?

Zelos & Vario are 2 notable Singaporean microbrands, good to check them out too! Cheers and have a safe flight to SG :)

Normal for people on here sure...

Generally speaking I'm not sure..
