From Russia with Love

These are all Russian watches I have acquired. Vostok watches and one Raketa Big Zero. The Vostok are the Russian equivalent of Seiko modding. Inexpensive and a lot you can do with them. Two on the left were very dirty. Cleaned polished and one of them I am doing my first attempt to fix a movement. The one on the right I actually bought off a vendor on Red Square back in 2000. A few of these were sold in Russian military stores as indicated by the writing in the 6 O’clock position.

Thats a nice collection - some unusual pieces.

I have a 1956 Raketa for blind people

Considering a Raketa was the first watch in space, I'll likely pick one up soon.

·

I have a Poljot alarm watch on the way. Very similar to a Vulcan Cricket. Will post it as soon as I get it.

·

Great set of watches. Congrats on yours. Here's my group.

I’m glad i got into Soviet watches first. Despite my Pokémon-like feelings towards Seikos, Soviet watches will be my watch enthusiast home.

I hope Vostok is about to grow its parts availability and improve QC in the future. It would add a lot and it would make it easier for me to recommend them.

I like your WW2 50-year anniversary Vostok. Unfortunately your Big Zero dial looks off with the crammed “madeinUSSR” text (in Russian). Sometimes i muse about hunting for a Soviet one but idk. Maybe one day. And if nothing else, i could always try to support Raketa by buying a modern one

I think that there is a lot of modifications going on with older watches like happens with HMT. A lot of swapping of parts, so it’s hard at time to know what’s original and what’s not. But thier inexpensive and fun. I haven’t really look at the new releases.

Very nice collection indeed. Have a couple myself and I am just amazed about the sturdy quality of these watches.👍
