So, the latest little donkeys to spend a few days at the Gasworks spa are now looking for a new home (currently very reasonably priced on eBay ๐)
The first one isn't particularly old but it is fairly unusual in that it has a full lume dial.
It's a 7S26 from 2001 (I think) and when it arrived at the Spa it was feeling rather unloved and in need of some TLC (Hooves clipped, coat brushed... you know the sort of thing).
The case wasn't awful but it was rather pitted and tired so most of the work required was in the refinishing and polishing
I cleaned the dial a little and retouched the chapter ring where it had been chipped in places. I also fitted new hands and a new (ridiculously expensive ๐ฌ) crystal and serviced the 7S26 movement.
The dial isn't perfect but who doesn't love a face that glows in the dark?!
Just imagine it telling a creepy ghost story....
I think my medication may be wearing off so before I lose the plot completely let's move on to donkey #2.
This one, a 7005-8022 from October 1972, came to the Spa looking very unloved on a strap that was too small (who puts a 16mm strap on an 18mm lug width?? ๐คจ) and a rather tired crystal and case..
Again, it was mostly case refurb work and the replacement of the aforementioned tired crystal. Some can be saved with the miracle of Polywatch; most can't.
I serviced the movement (I do love the 7005, it's such an honest little workhorse) and it's now running like a dream to about +8 seconds per day on the wrist.
I'm particularly pleased with the way this one turned out. The dial, hidden for so long under a cataract afflicted crystal, is a joy.
Anyway, until next time folks โฅ
Perhaps the next charity build will be for a real donkey sanctuary. ๐ค After all, who doesn't appreciate a nice ass? ๐
I'm here all week; try the veal/nut roast (inclusive menu)
Now... where did I put my tablets..
A self-confessed Seikophile who spends far too much time looking at bits of watches under a microscope. Probably the finest restorer of vintage Seikos in my house. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/gasworks

I like big lugs and I cannot lieโฆ
Does the 7005-8022 have a retractable crown? Or just very protective crown guards?

It has recessed crown... like the early 6139 "Pogues" with a little case notch.

Interesting. You donโt see that in modern designs. Is there a reason? Difficult to grab hold of it?
Excellent work & a good read. Cheers mate ๐๐ป
Excellent work sir!

They can be a little bit fiddly but I've never had a problem. My fingers are used to fiddling with little things though ๐๐
I โคdonkeys!!
They are both lovely. If I hadn't already bought that lovely blue 7005 off you a few months ago I would be snapping that one up!
I'm saving myself for another vintage seiko....
Great work! Nice to save those old girls from the glue factory
