Project Build a Camel Round 5 - The Caseback

So, after 4 thrilling rounds (unashamed building up of my own part) we now have the material, the case, the dial and the bezel sorted. Before we move on to the selection of hands (lots to choose from there) we need to decide what's going on the back. There are four options listed below and the winner goes forward to the final watch (our camel) Over to you WC fam

I voted brushed but I'd get this mod mode:

Exhibition. Because the others are boring!

·

I should add that there are options on the rotor if the choice is exhibition. Should have said that up above.

Is that an etched movement?

Isn't that like painting a picture of your garden on the inside of your garden facing window/s

·

Anything but polished.

Polished casebacks will be scratched beyond recognition even with minimal wrist time.

True but I think it looks cool

Go with brushed. Heck, if you intend to use it as a beater go sandblasted, even.

That watch is going to have an identity crisis soon, isn't it?

·

It won't be VC... budget won't quite stretch to that.

Beater? That's what Rolex are for... this will be priceless 🤣

I'd vote for an exhibition caseback, unless the movement is so utilitarian and unfinished that it should be hidden, in which case my vote would be for brushed. Even a reasonably finished movement can be interesting to look at.

·

I'm for exhibition assuming you can fab it without a lot of extra thickness as even eta movements still look nice imo

NH35... with potential to change the rotor

Exhibition won't add thickness. It's 1.2mm. That's thinner than most standard casebacks. It's a sapphire crystal too... should have mentioned that above too. Doh!

The NH35 isn't exactly a movement that begs to be seen, but with a nicely decorated rotor, it's also not something that needs to be hidden, especially if putting it on display doesn't impact thickness or have a huge negative impact on WR.

Most workhouse movements aren't particularly sexy to look at (2824, sw200, etc) but there's still a beauty to that heartbeat. IMHO.

I voted brushed but then read your added comments I've changed to exhibition!

Ok folks

After 24 hours and 130+ votes the clear winner is the exhibition caseback.

Now we need to make that movement a bit more interesting to look at... the first rotor poll will go-live later today.
