Interesting story

I had an interesting conversation with a friend last night. He’s middle 40s, and apparently befriended his old school teacher. Well teacher friend passed and left a watch to my friend.

My friend has had it for years and finally decided to send it back for service. The NY office said It had to go back to Geneva. I was suitably curious now so finally asked the brand.

Patek Philippe. Gold. Apparently from the 80s. They don’t have parts anymore so they have to make parts. He’s expecting it back towards December.

I can’t wait to see the finished product. I’ve never seen a Patek Philippe before.

Glad he is caring for it, the fact it was passed on from a friend makes it priceless.

He has learned about the service…but he’s doing it.

Where was that teacher working to get a PP? I like the idea of that teacher working their whole career to treat themself to their dream watch. Or perhaps it was passed down. Assuming it is real, remind him it is worth it to pay for the service. They might have sticker shock, but it will be worth it.

Yes, we both had sticker shock regarding the price of the service. My friend said its a basic watch (no complications) so maybe it’s more reasonable than other models. It’s in process in Geneva so I’m assuming its real…

I'm just wondering if the NY office or any boutiques or shops offer advice to a person on what to do with a watch that is handed over. Keeping it in its original state may be more cost effective unless they plan to wear it.

Being a vintage watch, no doubt that you would end up paying more than what they paid for the watch. But considering that you didn't pay for anything prior to this, it's worth the risk. The question now is whether he is fixing it to wear or to store it in a good condition. Either way its a win. Do post updates!

When my father passed my mother asked my brother and myself if we wanted his two tone Rolex DateJust. We both turned it down. My niece has it now.

Wow that pritty cool. Did he ever send you an image of that the watch looks like? Or do you happen to know the reference number to the watch? Just curious as to what it looks like my self, unless you plan to post a picture once your friend gets it back from service.
