Oh no wrong watch!

There is an old adage made popular by Chase Jarvis in his 2009 book "The Best Camera Is The One That's With You" this created a very passionate debate in the photography world. He explained that a good photography was the subject in itself and the emotion created for the eyes of the viewer. Not at all related to the material used.

Do you think that this adage could be used in the watch horology world?

Have you been caught sometimes saying ; Oh this is clearly not the watch I should have warn today?

Or you felt that your watch was mostly the proper one on your wrist?

Are there any written rules for this or you think this definitely can't apply in the watch world?

Grab a coffee tea or a glass of wine and let us know what you think!

Cheers

Not really except for the obvious like swimming with inadequate WR, Low light with no lume, things like that. Mostly though, if you like it, it’s the right watch to wear.

I mean to each their own, but I generally start thinking about what watch to wear as I’m going through my morning routine and am committed to the one I pick for the day, so for me, the one on my wrist is the right one.

This phrase can’t possibly be used in the Watch world.

My wife: do the dishes.

Me: sorry hun, wearing my Speedmaster. Can’t do dishes today.

I do consider chores, weather where I'm going with wife or family.

I Don't wear leather or any exotic strap when there's water involved need more WR. Thats for metal bracelets, rubber etc. Of course out socializing deepens if we're at the pub or a finer evening out.

You kinda get the jist here.

@torchy says it all.

Enjoy the watch!

Cheers!

Yes I do so myself. I try to choose the watch for the activities or places I'll go in a day. I also try to choose buying watches that can do many things and have good water resistance etc. I think like you mentioned one major aspect is the strap we can put on. Avoiding leather in summer days for instance knowing that we might get wet or even just hot summer days where they can get uncomfortable. Thanks!

Totally agree!

What you shoot (subject) is as important as how you shoot (composition). The camera you use plays a role. But, a nice watch poorly taken makes the watch look drab. 😉

No, I found myself unexpectedly unblocking stinky drains yesterday & realised half way through I was wearing my posh watch (SM300) !! I was splattered in nastyness so had to get Mrs to remove it for me. Panic over 😂😂
