Casio F105W vs F91W (A quick comparison)

Hey there thanks for checking out my post! I do want to give disclaimer that I'm using Amazon Canada for the prices of the watches, than translating those prices into American dollars. If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer!

In this post I will be preparing a run down/comparison of the F91W and F105W incase if your in the market for either or. And what I believe to be the better deal! I hope you have a relaxed time reading this drinking your tea or whatever it may be. I do wanna give another advance warning that these are purely just an opinion and by no means do you have to agree with.

Casio F91W

Features:

Alarm.
Stop Watch (up to 1 hour)
Backlight
12/24 hour display (your choice!)
7 year battery

Ah yes you probably know the F91W well. Almost everyone who collects watches or heard of watches most likely knows of the Casio F91W. Still a really popular watch with nothing changing since the year 1989. It can be still seen on people's wrist today and is even in popular media such as Squid Game which is a Netflix original series.

If by chance you haven't seen the F91W before that is completely fine, if you purchase the watch, you'd be receiving a smaller digital watch with resin construction. The pushers are what control the watch display. Pushing the bottom left pusher controls mode, going into alarm, stop watch, and time setting mode before going back to the "main" screen. The top left pusher is what controls the backlight of this solid watch and for anybody who knows...

The back light is incredibly poor! I'm not saying you can't see it completely dark at night but it's a really poor light that I believe should stay in the 1980s. Now I know I sound super negative but I still love the watch actually. It feels super comfortable in long periods of wear, to the point where I almost forget that it's on my wrist because of the slimness from the quartz movements you don't have to worry about banging into a wall as you walk by. However the case material can take a beating, I bet it can even handle a few hammer strikes (don't actually do this). There is multiple colour options for everybody. If you want a F91-W that is translucent, they make it, if you want a orange one, they make it, if you wanna go a little blingy like me with the gold and black, they make it. The nice thing about the colours is that it seems to me that the colour is through out the resin! Not just a top coat or anything! You can see this in my 2 years after McDonald's with the deep cuts in the case.

Overall a pretty solid little digital watch that has a rightful place in the world of digitals!

The F91Ws 'cousin', this is what the F91W should be in all seriousness. Overall you'd be receiving relatively similar watch made almost entirely of resin while the back is still stainless steel yet again. The bottom left push goes through the different 'modes' and has the follow features.

Alarm.
Stop Watch (up to 1 hour)
Backlight
12/24 hour display (your choice!)
7 year battery.

Now I know just stated the same features twice now but there is one key feature difference! The main difference between this and the other watch is the backlight.

The F105W as well only comes in a dark navy face dial while I stated before The F91W can come in multiple colours. This could be a difference for somebody to coose one or the other. I believe that if you shouldn't go over $25 for the F105W and for the F91W shouldn't go over $20 if your looking at the classic almost all black model. I'd like to hear your opinions in the comments which is your favourite model of Casio! Maybe we could even create a discussion? Thanks for taking the time to read this post! Dont Loose Track of Time! See ya!

I believe that the F105W is a tad thicker.

I believe that your right! Unfortunately for right now I can't give the most accurate thicknesses of the pieces. I'm purchasing a digital caliper soon so it should be easier!

Nah, it's fine for telling the hour and a rough idea of the minutes. There are ways to modify it so the LED points the right way or is replaced by something brighter, but I'm not that cool.

It's worth it for the 2mm of extra thinness, for some of us.

I completely agree about the light, in some strange way though it brings a small quirky 'unique' charm in my opinion though

The F105W is supreme. A big benefit in my opinion is the ability to easily put it on a NATO or another strap.

Thank you for this post!
I've had my F91W for >3 years now and use it as my beater/exercise watch. It works great for nearly everything EXCEPT when I need to see it in the dark. For instance, I often exercise outside my house after dark. This means I want to time my breaks between workout sets. When this happens, I press the little backlight button, the tiny left-mounted green light comes on and... I can vaguely make out what hour it is. Not very helpful.

Nearly all of the "F91W alternative"lists include all watches with "improvements" like more features, bigger, different styling, etc. I don't care about any of that. I just want an F91W with a better backlight. Finally, I know what my next beater watch will be.
Thanks again!

Wait, does this use normal spring bars instead of those taper pins on the F-91W? Or are we just talking about clearance between case and pin with that uncovered lug?

Just about the clearance but I should try putting in 18mm springbars instead of the standard pins. Don't see why it wouldn't work.

That does look really nice with a NATO! I'm glad you prefer the F105W I just think it looks more 90s with the whole blue face rather then more 80s with the multiple colours!

Don't even get me started on the similarities between the A168W and the A158W... Those are pretty much close but still considered "different" a watch can get

I got the green, which has a bit of a "metallic" finish. Love it. The silver one is similar.

Honestly Casio didn't go wrong with any of the colours for the F91W they all look quite nice! I just love how the colour is through out the entirety of the plastic not just a top coat

Great review both watches are great just the F105W has a upper nicer lume.

Thank you for taking the time to read some of my post! I really appreciate it and value your input and opinion! I can see where you're coming from for the F91W and I am honestly in kind of agreement after wearing both for quite sometime. The F91W has its unique charm where sometimes you don't need the best of the best where sometimes you can just be happy for what it is :)
