My take on an explorer.

Using a nice 36mm case,  nh38, sandwich dial,  and some 62mas hands I built this explorer homage.  True 36mm looks small on my wrist but the watch is really comfortable and I enjoy it so that's all that matters.

The lume is pretty good.

This one I'm not but it would be really easy to build another.

Do you mind sharing where I can get the parts? Haven’t seen this type of dial in namoki or dll ?

Sweet watch!! I'm stealing the info too!!

·

Sweet watch, I like the Panerai-esque dial. Thanks for the info!

·

Lovely job, hope you enjoy it

·

Kellan, great job.  Pulling from a few style choices really worked on this.  Well done.

·

So started a watch mod Instagram page and crystaltimes (where I got the dial) shared the watch last night.

They did share another build earlier in the year and they even used the photo in an ad.

Could you by any chance share some know how links for a newbie that wants to build a watch like yours for the first time? What kind of tools would I need to build a watch? And do I need anything else than dial, case, hands and movement as parts?

Here's a really handy link that covers a lot of the tools and where to get parts: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1TWSM0Or_x-5GpkVrm20avXFgviKzQE7Qw6u2U3TP8To/htmlview#gid=951129055

For the first builds I recommend using a case with the crystal already pressed in that way is one less thing to worry about.   would also order from a main supplier over ali since it's easier to get all the compatible/high quality parts at the same place.   The minimum tools needed to do a build like this are going to be:

Caseback tool, Hand setters, hand remova tool/dial protector, loop (or other magnification), rodico, compressed air, springbar tool, and a case pad.

Also diy watches has videos showing each step.  Let me know if you have any questions, I'm definitely not the best but if I don't have the answer I can point you to someone who does.

@Fiatjeepdriver

thx so much for the quick reply.
i have all together except for the movement…the site that I used didn’t have the movements in stock but will definitely go through your info to start after the summer break ^^

·

I built my own role-rai ^^

thanks so much for your help. Will need to upgrade the hands though. Hour hand slightly too fat for my taste.

That turned out awesome.  Part of the fun is figuring out what you like.   I really like the 62mas style hands having used them in something like 8 different builds.

Nobody and Kellan, I love these. I am a tool watch focused guy.   I am so envious you have the skills and ability to just make these your selves.  I am really one for unique watches and I would build one like these if I could.  If either one of you would DM me on the details on where you got the parts, what tools, etc. I really think I can try to make one.  Thank you in advance.
