Opinions on Sugess Watches?

Hi Chrunchers, lately I did some research on seagull 1963 watches and stumbled across the brand "Sugess". As far as I know they use seagull movements and combine them with their watch designs.

They even offer some tourbillion watches well under 1000€. The watches seem to be amazing bargains, but are they really? Thanks for your time and advice, have a great day.

I have had one for about 9 months. Works great.

I have heard that these come not completely lubricated and there are reports of dust, hair or fingerprints in the movements but that's hearsay as I've never witnessed these in person

One of these days, I’m going to pull the trigger on their Top Time homage.

By “one of these days,” I mean “when I remember to call my bank ahead of time and tell them the purchase I’m making from a company in China is legit, so they don’t block the transaction.” This has happened more than once.

I have been tempted by that tourbillon too and have been seeing the price go upwards. 😀

Sugess use a few different movements (they are the same group as Seestern) but in their chronographs it does seem to be exclusively Sea Gull.

I know See Gull get a bad press, but when you consider they have a brand history that some Swiss companies envy, and at the moment produce about a quarter of all the mechanical movements made every year, there are bound to be some bad reviews out there!

Their own brand watches seem to have much better reviews than those that use their movements (perhaps there are 2 tiers of production?). People think of Sea Gull as being an 'Ali Express brand', which is like saying that Timex are an 'Amazon brand' - in China Sea Gull are everywhere, its just in the west that Ali Express is our exposure to the brand.

If you want to know more about Sea Gull, search for the Tianjin Watch Factory.

FYI if you do purchase a watch with the chronograph movement I have read more problems with the companies using the ST1901 movement when using a 40mm case - when used in a 38mm there seem to be less issues (this could be due to pusher length/tolerances).

This evil Sugess Tourbillion with retrogrades cost me $750.00 and got me into collecting watches since it made it such an affordable hobby. Then I spent another $30,000.00 on watches. oops! I still adore this watch and it works well.

I've got two, a 1963 and this. Love 'em.

I have the Seagull 1963 now for about a year, it is in my constant rotation. The history behind this watch is great and for me anyway it is unbelievable value for money.

If you like the style of this watch I would say buy it. You only regret the things you DONT do in life.

I’m happy with mine.

I bought the Sugess moonphase after reading plenty of reviews. About 80% of reviews described satisfied customers based on general quality for the price. About 20% of reviews warned not to buy due to terminal breakdown and poor quality control. I took a chance and initially I was extremely satisfied. Within 3 months however the sticker labels faded into oblivion. By 11 months the mechanism fell apart and the watch seized. I contacted Sugess to have it repaired under warranty. Sugess replied that the warranty is over and I could either pay for repairs or buy a new watch. In future i won't be buying any watch with Seagull movements due to poor quality control and I certainly won't be dealing with Sugess ever again after they renigged on their warranty! Sugess are safe with their shoddy customer treatment from China with no respect to basic rights. Will you take the chance?
