Let’s talk Tag

In the past decade with the decline of the brand and series of failures the lvmh has finally given us smth to be excited about even if half of its made in china 😂 .

Though it’s not a flyback it’s still a nice Chronograph with vertical clutch, Beautiful watch, great size , movement , 80 hour power reserve and color options.

Why cant they do this more often and stop releasing huge 44 mm watches and is tag finally back ?

Think by all accounts this release has been a resounding success. The marketing in particular has been top drawer.

i think it’s actually the watch itself that did the talking . It spoke to the enthusiasts and I highly doubt they paid tom holland to wear it during the f1 race . Let’s be frank it’s a gorgeous piece . If they did this in solid rose gold instead of those bulky 42 mm Porsche ones for 23k , it would be a home run.

I wasn't aware that they had gone anywhere.

·

I LOVE the "decline of the brand." Here's why.

At an AD yesterday, I came across this watch...

Image

Absolutely stunning!!! The olive green dial is to die for!

I had put in a request to my AD to get me this watch a while ago...

Image

But, after seeing the Tag, I'm no longer interested in the Speedy '57... if I want a green chronograph, it's the Tag all the way!!!

As an enthusiast, honestly, I LOVE IT when a brand isn't popular... it means that I can get their watches for a killer deal on the grey market. According to Chrono24, I can get the Tag for ~$4.5k, while the Speedy would cost me ~$9k!!! Do I value the Speedy at 2x that of the Tag? Absolutely not. I couldn't care less about heritage or brand cache between the two, etc., etc. I think I value the watches themselves at a 1:1 ratio.

The Tag is gonna be my next watch purchase!

Oh yeah, by 'all accounts' I mean the watch, the marketing and the reaction. Toyed with buying one myself. But if I'm buying another chronograph it's not that one.

Not aware that TH had been in decline! I’m never sure why there is this perception about the brand. They got nailed once by misleading on the 1887 movement (based on Seiko if I remember) however the big three did this for years with JLC, so did Rolex with Zenith and I can’t see anyone naming and shaming them. TH have huge horological significance, far more than most. They also have some real icon piece that a lot of manufacturers would bite their own arm off for. I tried on the glass box a few weeks ago and it’s a really nice watch, if I didn’t own a Monaco I would have bought it on the spot.

·

Decline or not, I don’t know, but this reversed panda is a beautiful watch. I tried both that and the blue version. The blue is also great looking but with a different vibe.

·

Because daddy Arnault (who owns LVMH) placed his oldest son who never worked a day in his life as CEO of Tag overnight and his first order of business was to release a $6000 Mario Kart smartwatch. 😂

I’m a chronograph novice. Is this Tag a good value?

Omega needs newer movements. Ty watches are huge and thick . That’s why speedy 57 is manual . I totally agree it’s not worth 9k . Plus the bracelet is really really bad .

That tag looks nice

Monacos are amazing . I hope they will re-release the double sided one )

That black Carrera “Glassbox” is the first modern TAG (reissues aside) I’ve fallen in love with (though it really feels more like an updated reissue of the 69 Hamilton Chronomatic than a Carrera). The design is a beautiful execution of a modern watch with clear ties to Heuer’s past and the size and proportions are spot on. The price, however, is a lot to swallow, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not deeply tempted and will probably go for it once the start getting discounted and/or pop up on the used market.

New Carrera chronographs are indeed masterpieces (my opinion :). I like Grand Carrera designs from recent past and am a proud owner of Calibre 6 with small seconds on rotating disc.

But with TAG it's tricky...during W&W they also released new Aquaracer in yellow gold for ~18K USD...who needs aquaracer at this price???

·

Sir, you had me at 44mm😁😉

57 wears larger then it’s size , it’s manual that’s why it’s a lil thinner , and it’s more expensive.

U looking for reasons to justify why it’s expensive?) if u like the 57 of course u should get it my friend . Oh and carrera has 20 more hours of power reserve)

Just countering your original false statements about thickness and movement.

·

I think tag went too far into fashion, but has been slowly pulling out. You can see the influence of the group that owns the brand for sure. I recently got an aquaracer 200 and absolutely love it. Perfect size, beautiful fumei dial, love the steel bezel reminiscent of the 2000 series. Push the envelope, but don’t forget history.

·
Dumont

Of course u r 100 percent right .

My comment was regarding u underestimating seiko )

Check some grand seikos and the latest tantograph . Ull be pleasantly surprised

Oh yeah, I know GS has some amazing capabilities today - not just the tentagraph, but the kodo constant force torbillon. I have a 5 day spring drive, which is amazing the way they combined quartz and mechanical, but I don't compare this vs my pure mechanical watches. I appreciate mechanical watches for their technical side, but also the finishing, the look of the "architecture" of the movement. One thing that's underappreciated is how thin can the movement and watch get for what it achieves. The tentagraph is cool, but it's 15mm thick!

You are absolutely right . The price for gold watches is just silly now. Omega wants 25 k for a gold case globemaster and so on…

It’s not false . If u compare automatic 57 vs glass box it is actually thicker . Here see for urself .

What watch u wanna get ?

Tag looks great on ur wrist tho .

Thank you for your kind words!

I'm looking to purchase the Farer Moonphase Burbidge.

It's out of stock until early 2024 apparently.

U r comparing an automatic with a manual watch . U know that right ?

Yes. I already stated that…after you incorrectly stated it was thicker and had an old movement. Both of those things are inaccurate. There are plenty of things to love about the new TH glass box, and you can love or hate the new 57, just be honest about it.

If u compare two Automatic 57 and Glassboxes then 57 is thicker )

True, but that wasn’t the comparison Watch shown above that started the discussion. The 57 auto isn’t currently in production, nor did it ever cost $9k+.

The current 38mm speedy automatic costs $6k and is 14mm thick.
