I remember the commercials when the first Timex Indiglo watches came out, like the one with the Statue of Liberty wearing a Timex. Cool looking tech at the time.

imo, electro-luminescence is under utilized. just think if Grand Seiko used their spring drive to power it--what they could do with under lighting.
I'm a life-long owner of Timex watches (50+ yrs) and do appreciate the Indiglo feature; it certainly was cool when it first came out! ... But I prefer good lume over Indiglo (most of the time), as you don't need to "two hand" the watch to read the time at night.
Now if Timex put a decent lume on the hands (at least) in addition to the Indiglo, that'd be a good improvement!
Oh and I found the commercial. I guess CGI was already looking pretty good.

Something cool that Casio did with some of their watches was the wrist-flick backlight which would turn on when you'd turn your wrist towards you to check the time.
Interesting article and videos. Thanks for sharing 🤓

This is still a feature on a bunch of G Shocks and some of their sports watches! They call it Auto Light. Both of my Gs have it. It's very handy!
