Do you ever lend/borrow watches?

My birthday is the July 16th, my younger brother's is July 18th (a decade apart). I really love the little worm and I try to guide him in any way I see beneficial to him. One of those ways is buying watches, my rules are simple;

• Buy what you like.

• Buy what fits you comfortably.

• don't spend what you can't afford to (you want it, you don't need it.

• Buy well-made, they last longer.

He sticks to these guidelines and I like that, he has a tender collection growing, 2/3 Seikos, a G shock and a Ball I got him for his 21st birthday. He still borrows a select few of mine from time to time and last night he borrowed one of my more affordable pieces to match an outfit.

This is how it came home to me. Now, I'm a simple guy, not much gets me upset. With that said.... I am #$@&ing fuming on the inside. It could have happened to me but crown and stem missing and springbar that holds the buckle broke. The buckle I understand, the stem and crown, not so much.

He's my brother so I won't ban him from my collection but ....I sure am thinking about it.

This is why I will gift out of my collection, and have done so in the past, but will never lend a watch out of my collection.

If someone admires a watch in my collection, unless it is one of my favorites I am unwilling to part with, I will ask if they want it and gift it to them. I don't like the idea of making someone else responsible for something from one of my collections (I collect a number of things in addition to watches), so it is just better to give it away than to lend it, assuming it is something I am willing to give away.

Holy 😲

Did he at least justify it by saying 'you should see the other guy'?

All kidding aside, as long as he's ok, the watch can be fixed/replaced.

He's ok, guess he just had too much fun while wearing it, it seems.

That used to be my solution but as I got older, noone really gets to see my collection unless my Mrs. has her family over and I'm switching straps or something.

Being my younger brother, he knows he has access to my stuff, he has a copy of all my car keys lol but smh I'm touchy when it comes to my watches. Whether 10K or $10 I plan to keep em for life.

The one rule of borrowing stuff from friends/family…

YOU bend it, YOU mend it.
