I never got to the second thought. I think spending that kind of money is almost completely insane. When there are such outstanding GMT watches out there at a fraction of that price. They will definitely out last you, me and our kids. The Lorier Hyperion, Seiko GMT’s, Traska, Jack Mason, Squale, Citizen… the list is nearly endless, and you could frankly buy all of them for the price of one lovely Rolex…. I love Rolex, and I own an air king. But that GMT Master II is WAYoverpriced for its market. IMHO
I own one and I want the other! Both is good… I have the SSK001, and it’s vastly exceeds my expectations. And while it is a fairly big watch in my estimation, it wears close to the wrist and just feels much more solid than its price point. I can’t speak to the 0023 because I’ve never held one, but I do like the aesthetics of it. I’m wearing my Hamilton automatictoday probably because I just love the field style watches anyway… Long story short both are excellent watches and your definitely not gonna make bad decision either way you go
As much as I love the SMP 300, the Rolex ExplorerII is the most enduring watch of the group. It’s not a fad. It’s not a watch of the hour. It is enduring beautiful and functional and I hope you wear it to your 50th wedding anniversary. All three watches that’s the one you will still own. And the watch you can take on every adventure with your wife and family to the oceans to the mountains and everywhere in between.
