Changing the Time between 9pm - 3am

Good day everyone, just want to ask if it’s safe to adjust the time between 9pm-3am, i kept reading that changing the date will damage the watch. My watch is a Quartz movement and i have no issue with the date, although my time is a bit late by only 3 minutes.

But that’s been bothering me for 2 days since i bought this watch, so i decided to adjust the time only by going forward. Maybe i adjusted it to little to perfect for the minute hand to be at the centre (was changing it at 11:30pm) and was referencing the time on my iphone.

i read my guidebook again and stumbled upon the statement saying i shouldn’t change between 9pm-1am.

Would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions on what to do next time and advices! I’ve been start to collect watches and i want to take care of it better!

Thank you!

As far as I know, it's automatics that usually are an issue. Changing the date between like and 9 p.m.- 3 or 4 a.m..

Haven't heard any issue about changing time on a quartz.

Changing the time should not be an issue whatsoever.  That it, moving the crown to position 3 to advance the minutes hand and then the hours hand - not a problem.

The issue is with the quickset date function - typically crown position 2.

I assume the following:

  • Do not use the quickset date function between 9pm and 3am, regardless if it is an automatic or a quartz watch
  • For most models of watches, a number of gears are coming together between 9pm and 3am to change the date over
  • If you then engage the quickset date change function, you're spinning the gear that controls the date wheel, and the danger is sheering teeth off of gears that are engaged
  • I don't see why that would be different whether the watch is automatic or quartz - presumably in both cases the date change occurs because gears are coming together between 9pm and 3am

If your user manual tells you not to do it, don't do it!

This. It gets doubly troublesome for day/date like a Sieko 7S26. Very easy to break one of those.
