If you can't beat 'em... join 'em!

Not sure if its more of case of "If you can't beat em'... join 'em" but my wife has almost become a collector in her own right. This is her 3rd colour variation of the F91w.

I bought her a Tag when our son was born, but she only wears that on special occasions. But last year she mentioned she had a F91w when she was younger, so I bought her one. Now she seems to be collecting them!

This is great...

  1. I can pretend we share a hobby

  2. Her Casio taste is cheap

  3. Easy-win gifts

I mean I don't think she will be joining the Crunch or taking particular interest when I'm on WatchGecko trying to match a Nato strap with one of my many watches but it's a start I guess 😁

Anyone else managed to turn their loved ones into this absurd hobby??

Jeez. I wish... my wife is perplexed by my interest in watches

Yup. I built her a couple Seiko Mods and she has a pink F-91W.

My wife is a long way from being a collector but is she’s watching something on tv and they show a watch if she thinks I’ll like it she’ll either look into it or just tell me about it. Example she was watching a movie on Netflix that had Liam Neeson in it and she told me about the Casio Wave Ceptor (she didn’t know until I told her) she so surprised when I told her that it was only $30 but it’s a awesome watch and I wouldn’t mind having one in my collection. That’s good enough for me it shows that my wife cares about what I care about even if she’s not planning on having a collection of her own.

Great choice of watch. I feel my better half would be buying something a little less classy.

My Old Man now has a few Longines and 3 Tudor's Due to my influence. I was watching Nekkid Watchmaker, watchfinder and the like. He was hooked within 2 weeks. This is his BB Ceramic. (not a great photo)

My wife is similar... we were watching House of Cards and she pointed out watches to me; Cartier, IWC and Rolex! 😆 I need to put Back to the Future on maybe?!

Man I love this watch!

My wife used to wear a watch all the time, but stopped because the kids kept grabbing it, then batteries ran out and she just never got back to wearing it.

A month ago we just had our 3rd kid and we've both said this is the last one (thank god 🤣) so I thought it would be nice to celebrate this. Obviously my obsession with watches led my choice of gift! But I do think the symbolism surrounding time etc plus the permanence of a decent watch makes them quite poignant gifts.

I managed to find a lovely Raymond Weil Maestro with a Mother of Pearl dial (see what I did there) and for my nerdy complication fix, a moonphase.

It's dressier than her other watches and I said I don't mind if she doesn't want to wear it every day, but since I showed her how the rotor and mechanism works she actually seemed mildly interested and she wears it every day, and even keeps me updated on the moonphase from time to time.

She still won't sit and watch an episode of wristwatch revival with me yet! But she didn't order me to switch off a watchfinder episode the other day 😅 baby steps!

He got lucky Twice in a row. Spent 9 Months tracking the Tudor down. And only spent 6 months on the Rolex Sub no date waitlist.

Congratulations on baby number 3. Our third (and likewise, our last!) is due next month. I am not sure whether to get her a watch as a gift as I've done that before and probably won't be able to top the Tag (mother of pearl dial too 😉)

Congrats man, enjoy it! Something nice about the last one. So far the jump to 3 has been easier than the jump from 1 to 2, we're already used to chaos now 😅Hopefully you get a similar experience! Best of luck 🍀
