The case has some similarity to my cheapo China quartz. This is actually a pretty decently styled half hunter though.
If you want to shorten the chain, that is easily done with pliers and wire cutters. And if the cover doesn't snap cleanly shut, gentle pushing on the release tab (visible at 12 o'clock when open) will remove excess play.
The brassing at the bow shows that this actually got used.
