Rolex accuracy

I got this second hand under 5 years old. What is your opinion? The watch runs at -3 a day. Not too bad but my 66 year old Longines runs better and it is not within Rolex’s own tolerances. The watch is still under warranty. Should I have it regulated?

If it bothers you enough then go ahead and do it. Do you wear it a lot though? I have watches that are off by as much as 20 seconds a day, but it's fairly meaningless to me since I only wear them perhaps once a week as I rotate through other watches in my collection. A deviation of only 3 seconds is still pretty decent and can easily be compensated for by just setting the watch a bit ahead of local time whenever you adjust it.

My 2 cents. I don't have budget to have one of this but considering it's price and if the 'warranty' means a full service for free I would for sure send it to be serviced.

thanks, I’m just afraid it will get worse after the warranty expires and then I will have to pay for a $1000 service myself soon

Oof, yeah that's a very practical concern. Getting it adjusted while it's still under warranty is probably the way to go then, especially if it'll be easier on your wallet and give you some peace of mind.

Especially if you're OCDing like me and can't stand a watch going slow 😄

I'd service it as well

it will just be regulation, I think I will talk to the AD

No , it's within a margin of error. If it was way out then yes. You may be able to gain that error back by resting the watch in different orientations on a night time i.e dial up. crown up etc..

It can also depend on the freq of wear, is the watch your EDC where it is always pretty much at full power etc..

It being this close to the original spec after nearly 5 years means the watch is healthy and you can carry on enjoying it.

first off, very nice watch! Secondly, I would rather have a watch run 10 seconds fast than 1 second slow. I'm weird, I know. You might as well take it in to ask about regulation 🙂

I think so, I will talk to the watchmaker at the AD

Definitely get it regulated under warranty. The watch should keep to specifications. You should expect nothing less

Unless you're running a black op or something, and really NEED supreme accuracy, -3 per day is not a big deal! As someone else mentioned, just set it 1 minute fast at the first of each month and you'll always be pretty spot on.

Or just get a quartz watch! 😉

I’m just worrried that it could be a sign of a problem that will occur in the future when the warranty has run out

I hear that...but +/-3 seconds a day is practically within COSC cert!

What are the specifications on this watch!?!?! +/-2? So this is maybe a second off? I'd say good enough. 😉

But it is not within Rolex-standards

If it's in warranty have a word with your AD as most have certified watch makers on site ,also you will get the water resistance checked for free ,worst case they send it off ,as DeepCmonkey says laying it in different positions at night

Tried the different positions on my wife's yacht master and it did work slightly it s only about 11 seconds a day now ,so it's off to the AD

Many people would, I know. But it's not what they promise....

quick update. It turns out that the previous owner of the watch probably didn’t use it very much, because after a week on my wrist every day, it now averages at about -0.5 seconds a day!
