ultrasonic watch cleaners

I would like your opinion about ultrasonic watch cleaners. Are they any good? Are they worth buying? Can they damage a watch? Can you recommend any?

They are good if you are a watchmaker and use it to clean the parts or to clean bracelets or other jewelry. I don't see the point in using it for the watch head, even if it is wr, just use a brush in water. I've got a cheap one from Amazon and it works just fine.

I've used them regularly in previous jobs in tattooing & as a bike mechanic ( cleaning carburettor parts)

There's different grades of machines, in terms of power and how aggressively they clean for starters....

Personally I'd not put any watch head in one, & I'd be wary of putting in separate parts too if they're in contact with each other.

Really your best bet would be to hope a watch maker replies on here or search other forums.

TLDR- Seek professional advice from a watchmaker .

Good luck 👍🏻

I use one to clean fountain pens when changing ink, sunglasses, and firearms parts.

If my watch is dirty enough, I just rinse it under the faucet, brush with toothbrush (one used soley for this FYI), air dry, then wipe crystal with Zeiss lens wipes.

I'm no expert, and I use my watches fairly hard, and occasionally shower with them on, but an ultrasonic uses vibration which is not good for auto movements or even quartz.

Now for bracelets, hardware, etc all day.

It is an excellent tool. I use mine for bracelets, rubber straps, fountain pen nibs, my mom's earrings and rings, etc. I have put a watch head in mine, but it doesn't do much in terms of cleaning. Never put a mechanical watch head in one, because it might magnetise your balance spring. Even if you don't use it for watch-related things, it is still a great all-round household tool.

Got one recently and washed all of my bracelets in them and what a difference!

Had never really cleaned them and will be doing it regularly now.

As others said, never the fully assembled watch; just the disassembled parts.

You can even clean other jewelry and items like eyeglasses.

Super happy with my inexpensive Amazon one.
