12 watches that fit my list of 18 essential features

There's quite a lot I want in a watch.

  • Lightweight and comfortable in both summer and winter.

  • Battery that goes multiple years (no stupid charging).

  • Quick to access countdown timer and stopwatch.

  • Daily alarms.

  • Local time always displayed no matter what mode I'm in.

  • And a very clear visual distinction between modes. (On most digital displays all the modes look the same at a glance).

  • Good display that's quick and easy to read.

  • Always on display (many "smart" watches require motion to turn on the screen).

  • Menu and settings easy enough to learn and use.

  • Replaceable battery so it can last many years (again no stupid smart watches).

  • Flat back side. (Many watches create a pressure spot with their raised back panel.)

  • An LED light that isn't too bright when used in bed late at night.

  • And not too ugly. I'm not super picky. Just needs to be reasonably okay.

  • Tough and water resistant for any activity.

  • Affordable. For me $150 is fine. Maybe someday I'll spend $300. Anything above that I feel is for billionaires like Elong Must, Jill Bates and Drek Bezorks.

  • Fits my 6.5" wrist.

  • And standard lugs so I can swap out straps. Though I'll give this up if the fixed strap is really comfy.

  • No leather anywhere in the package. (As I've mentioned before it's often cat and dog skin from China which is the world's biggest producer of leather. And the leather industry in general is just an evil piece of shit that I don't want to support.)

I have skipped some nice to have features like sapphire. I'm asking for a lot already so I can't be too picky.

There's also no solar in my list. I really don't mind swapping batteries every few years. And since many solar watches cost double the regular version and their replacement batteries cost 20 times more, I just don't see the point. For the same price I could just buy two non-solar watches and keep one as a backup.

Still I'm asking for a lot to have in one watch. And really the only brand that comes close is Casio. And still only in a small selection of their watches.

The GBD-200 is my current favorite. It's very casual/sporty in style which I enjoy. And honestly if I had to choose only one watch I wouldn't care that it doesn't go with a suit.

The strap is fixed but it's softer than any other Casio or G Shock that I know of and that's one of the reasons I love it.

Still it's nice to have options to dress a little nicer and also wear fabric straps so for that I also have the M100. For the same price this one is titanium and sapphire, though not as tough as the g shock of course.

It's solar too, though I find that to be more of a pain because I can't keep it long term in my watch carry case - and I don't want a big glass display case.

There are a few other Casios that come close to covering my features list. But some of them are a bit big for me or the fixed strap doesn't fit me well.

Those are pretty sweet, I want a super accurate watch in the near future, and have been considering some of these models.

Good plan. Can't go wrong with any of them in my opinion.

I'd just try them in a store if you can because the fit is very different between them.

I love that model G-Shock, especially the blue variant.

Yeah it's really nice

That m100 looks great. I have a similar size wrist and the 2100 g shock feels amazing on wrist

This requirements list is longer than my CV

I have a list of preferences and dislikes. It is VERY rare than I keep a watch that doesn't fall in line.

like have sold over 300 watches to figure this out. Finally.
