Winter or Spring? 415 or 413

I decided long ago that a GS was going to be my next purchase, and what else other than spring drive.

After becoming obsessed with the Skyflake SBGA407, I’ve now decided the blue leather only strap just isn’t going to get used enough with how I dress. I have seen this put on a bracelet but it just doesn’t ever look right to me due to the case shape.

I was then put onto the SBGA415 and loved it, but needed to try it on in person which I did today, but then I also tried the 413 on which was a lot better in person than I imagined (the subtle pink is nowhere near as saturated as in the press releases). Now I’m stuck!

Has anyone purchase either of these, had real world experience (proper daylight) how have you found them? Also have you done any strap changes onto leather, as I do want that option?

Both great choices!  I've seen them in person and you can't go wrong with either.  The GS website photos don't do them justice.

See if your AD will do a 2 for 1!  😉

I've seen both, have tried both on the wrist, and you absolutely can't go wrong with either choice.  This is the fun part!  Agonizing over which of the 2 awesome watches to go with!

They absolutely don’t. The Spring was not for me until I tried it on, but in the flesh it’s a different thing. My worry is the versatility of what is still a pink dial, and how this will look in real world lighting.

Doesnt harm asking! 👀

I'm looking at the SBGW267.  Like the others, the website photo doesn't look like anything special.   In person it's really spectacular imo.

Yep. It’s a classy watch, lovely size too! There’s many GS I want, the issue round here is finding a retailer that actually stocks them all.

I always take videos on the wrist when I can’t see them all in 1 place but the issue with most GS dials is when the memory fades the video doesn’t ever capture the dials in the light properly.

I almost need them to loan them to me for a test run. Wonder how that would go down 🤔

Hi! Earlier this year I went with Spring. It is awesome. There may be the blue seconds hand thing (or rather: lack thereof)… but I find Spring rather nice to match with office attire. Got a lot of applause from non-watch persons. Now I am searching a nice strap. The bracelet is great, but I want to reinforce the impression of lightness. Have it on a black alligator, works very well. Makes an impression of a cream dial in some lights - very vintage Grand Seiko Looks. but I’m looking for one that emulates the look of a branch of cherry tree even better with some grey and brown hues to the black…

I own the 413, and it’s my most worn watch and daily almost beater. It grabbed my attention the moment I saw it. I tried on the 415 at the same time and it left me… cold. To me, it looked sooty. I kept coming back to the 413 for months until I bought it. To be fair, I never saw either of them in proper daylight before I bought the 413, but then again, you’ll spend a lot of time looking at it in less than ideal light. Proper daylight light adds dimensions, the dial is so changeable.  I can’t be sure, but I can’t imagine that the 415 is as dynamic as the 413. There are times the 413 looks rather dull. I’ve had no trouble with versatility. I’m not one to coordinate my ensemble too assiduously, but to my eye the color isn’t strong enough that it clashes too terribly with much. you can tell which one I favor, but in the it’s all a matter of taste, so I don’t know how much this helps, but that’s my take.

I’d go for the spring though the white date wheel is a bit jarring. They’ve just announced a new model 36.5mm time only in pink which I’m awaiting availability for

Thanks for the feedback. The blue heated hand certainly is a big tick in the box for the 415 for me personally.

Good point on the lighting. I’d probably agree the 413 had/will have more dimension in natural light, and I have heard lots of stories of people getting a cold feeling from the 415 (I didn’t get that myself) but I suppose that’s GS doing their job well on a winter model.

Yes, just seen that myself in the last few days, with the minimalist grainy pink dial? It is very nice, but for me personally I can’t go much lower than 39mm.

Yes I would like to have seen the date wheels colour matched on both but then I’d also like to have seen the movement in full without the GS lion logo. No watch is perfect I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

Both the 413 and 415 are great. Especially if you like the 62GS case which some love, others don't.     I find the case wears so well at the 40mm diameter.  And the lack of a bezel really gives it a unique look you don't see on other pieces.

I originally went in thinking Snowflake.  But after trying it on, I didn't love the case on my wrist.  Feel too bulky.  The snowflake is a spectacular watch but didn't fit me well.     AD also had both the 415 and the 413 and as soon as I tried on the Shunbun, it was all over.

Like others commented, Winter or Spring ...   it really comes down to personal preference.   I started the new year with my SBGA413  and have been loving it as a daily wear.   As you saw, it's a really subtle pink and wears a mostly silver to the casual eye.    My AD let me take them outside it natural light and that's when the spring won me over.

The 415 winter is  great.  The blue hand pops and really shows off the spring drive sweeping seconds.  But the dial color was a touch drab for me when it was next to the 413.       Also consider, will the Shunbun be your one and only watch?    If not, the versatility becomes less of a concern.

I've never been able to wear a bracelet until I discovered titanium.  And I think the negativity on the GS bracelets is a tad overblown.    Maybe it's not to the level of a Rolex, but this bracelet (for me) is so comfortable.   I'm someone who is constatly moving the pin between two holes on my leather straps throughout the day.  So typically bracelets even with micro adjustments are a non starter.     But with the half links the size on my 413 is perfect and I barely notice I'm wearing it with the lightweight titanium.

Despite loving the bracelet, I have investigated leather straps.  Many will recommend Delugs.   They have a great tool on their website where you can pair all of the straps with the 413.  I ordered two and returned both.  They were  part of the slim cut and while they looked great lying on a flat surface,   I didn't like how the slim strap paired with the height of the case when on the wrist.   I'm in the minority as you will find many shots on IG and the forums praising how well they pair.      The delugs signature series is a little thicker strap that I may consider trying.

Overall, you'll be happy with either.   But if you're leaning towards spring, definitely don't let the pink scare you off.

I have the GS Winter.  At first I thought I was going to go for the Spring.  I had the good fortune of trying the Spring and Winter side by side.  When I saw the Spring in person, the pink was too washed out for me, I actually wanted more pink!  Also I like the added splash of color of the second hand of the Winter, that helped push it over the top for me.

Both watches are incredible. I like the weight and feel of the titanium case.  Everyone seems to hate on the bracelet, but I think it is comfortable (but that may not be the case for everyone).  I thought I would put it on a strap, but every time I think about ordering one, I keep thinking about how much I like the bracelet and how versatile it is.  One day, I will get a strap or two just to give it a different look.  The only thing that bugs me about the watch is the lion graphic on the display case back, it detracts from getting a good look at the movement.

There really is no wrong answer here, the Spring and the Winter are great.

Ever notice there isn't alot of love for the Summer and Fall?  I know those aren't spring drive, but what's up with that?

I think it can can be comfortable for just about anyone, if you know how to size it. I'm going to post my public service announcement and pro tip here, since so many people complain about the fit of the bracelet. It comes with two half links, which are really more like 2/3 links. By mixing and matching half links and whole links, you can adjust to 1/3 link increments, or about 2mm. You can get a good fit. Don't just add or subtract a half link and conclude that you can't get a good fit, you can do better than that.

Have the 413, but loved both equally "in the metal." What skewed me towards the 413 is the fact that I have two daughters, both born in the spring.

Winter 415

·

Did you end up purchasing? I went with the 415 for the versatility and bc I connect more w winter months (clothing, vibe, atmosphere) than I do w spring months. Pairs well w a rubber or leather strap.

Certainly did. I ended up going 413, personally for me just dazzled a bit more in the flesh. There was also a comment above that swayed me as I bought this to mark my sons birth and he was born in first few days of spring. Agree on all your points about the 415, I’m very similar, but in the flesh I went the other way.

I also wear it on a grey leather. Mainly because, as far as I’m aware, if I scratch it up too bad, it’s gotta go back to Japan for the zaratsu polish. Don’t fancy that bill!
