The Russian experience

This morning I came to the conclusion that watches are like politics. You just need a slight adjustment of a viewing angle to change the perceived reality and shape it to whatever you want it to be.

Steve Jobs was well known for the RDF, but my 710 Amphibia can win any reality distortion contest against the best that Apple can offer. The 3mm thick and curved acrylic isn't just shatter proof (something which can't be said about other Russian products), it also introduce some crazy distortions which are interesting to capture on camera. And so with a bit of creative photography and a lot of self delusion the time on my 710 can be whatever I wish it to be. Just like politics.

My 710 is not a modern reinterpretation of a vintage USSR military watch from the 60's. It's made on the same assembly line, in the same plant, with the same material and machinery, and probably by the same people as well. It's a true demonstration that stagnation is the key to truly experience something from the 60's.

It's also very comfortable to wear. If I had to compare the way it feel on my wrist to something else, then the closest approximation would be a Seiko mini turtle or the ISL-68 that I own, with the caveat that the 710 is lighter.

The 710 Amphibia is a true 60's watch and that extend to areas that span farthest than you can imagine from just style and build.

Another day, another watch # ADAW to the rescue!

I suspect this case is one of their more expensive to manufacture. Getting all those radii to merge as they do, then finish in high polish that would exaggerate any imperfection is an accomplishment.

+1, I love them for exactly these reasons, new & vintage at the same time, and immensely comfortable.

The level of finish and polish is less good than what it looks like in the photos. Soft lines, vague facets can be seen if looked closely. Burrs marks in the inside of the lugs span and sharp edges on the bottom of the case are less obvious.
