SOTC November 2022 Part# 4

The Jins & Vico is my oldest winder and it's been holding on so far. I far prefer the modular approach of BOXY because I can spread or consolidate modules with the power bases or even keep single modules separate because each come with its own external power supply.

But the J&C is already here on the fourth shelf in the study and is keeping some the watches that are the first to be grabbed if I have no idea what to wear on that day.

The watches are from left to right, top to bottom:

  1. Zelos Horizons GMT, bronze case and cobalt blue dial. It's very compact for a GMT watch and there is nothing to fault with its ETA movement. The only problem I have with it is that the 24 hour scales are not very legible so it's not the best at being a GMT, but nevertheless it's a cracking watch and the bronze is aging gracefully.
  2. Seiko SARB017 Alpinist: It's a winner once it found its match with the Perugia strap from Colareb and I consider it to be a good candidate for the title of the quintessential Seiko.
  3. Junghans Max Bill Bauhaus: It's hard to believe it but it's actually the smallest of the watches in the top row, but with its all white dial and no visible bezel it looks larger. It's also the most formal and dressier watch that I own, which is perhaps the reason why I don't wear it often.
  4. Vostok 420379 Amfibian. I admit that there is some irony in placing it adjacent to the Max Bill because it's difficult to find two watches more different from each other. It's basically a classic SCUBA dude watch with a colorful Seiko Pepsi bezel insert. Very fun to wear in the summer and it's a real 200m automatic dive watch for the price of a meal.
  5. Marathon Arctic MSAR: 36mm and tough as nails. It's a true diver and I like it because it's 36mm and not a YABBDDW. It's also extraordinary legible despite the small dial.
  6. Timefactors Smiths Everest PRS-25: That one is the gilt dial version and is probably responsible for the worst purchasing experience in my life. It was such a bad experience that by comparison a 4 years wait list start to feel like a breakthrough in building customer relationship.
  7. CIGA Design Z Titanium: I got that one from one of their crowdfunding campaigns and it's running a close competition with the GM-S5600 for the worst legible watch ever. Except from that it keeps time remarkably well and the skeletonization was nicely done. It also came in one of the best packages you can get.
  8. Glycine Airman No. 1 GL0162: The other GMT watch, and it's quite surprising because I do like GMT watches but only own two. Wearing it is a wonderful experience because it's so thin and because the strap is so supple and also thrilling because due to its 0m WR I'm afraid to sneeze while wearing it or being in the same zip code as a room with a faucet and sink.
