I think that the Flightmaster is the real Clark Kent of watches.

Judging by my Seiko SNA411 Flightmaster, it would be very hard for me to convince anyone that sourcing straps for it is difficult, or that 21mm lug's width are the devil. The fact remains that the Flightmaster is the watch for which I have the most straps, and for a very good reason, which is its versatility.

I don't have any other watch that is able to change and morph its personality as easily as the SNA411. It's like Superman that only need to put on some glasses and he turns back into Clark Kent whom Lois is suddenly unable to recognize.

Objectively, with its busy and distinctive dial, the SNA411 can't magically turn into a three hand no date watch by just swapping a strap. What it can do however is turn from a solid and conservative watch worn on a dark brown leather strap, into a fancy upscale chrono on a mesh, or in the case of the yellow rubber strap, into a generator of happy and positive vibes.

It's basically like a cat purring with the same hum of a well tuned diesel engine: You don't really need it but your life will be less satisfying without it.

Image

With the solid array of different straps that I own, the SNA411 will probably be fitted within a few weeks to something completely different. I may even return to the MN strap which seems to be the one accessory needed as a rite of graduation for anyone who ever owned a Flightmaster.

Until then I'll keep it on the bright yellow strap because this is a combination that always manage to lift my spirit.

Droooooooool! The SNA411 (and especially the more rare SNA413) are definitely a Grail of mine!

I think that Long Island Watches still had some a few years ago. It may be worth your while to ask Marc about it.
