Morning macro shots with the Superman

The Yema Superman is a model that I really like. Its elegant 60's vintage look is nicely complemented with modern materials and manufacturing and it resulted in a watch that is one of the best looking in my collection.

I like it so much that this morning it provided for me the incentive to go all out with the Canon RP and the massive 85mm macro lens with which I took all the shots this morning. Feel free to zoom in as much as you can because this lens is awesome.

Using the RP is not feeling as natural or fluid as the old G12 yet, and I'm still struggling with focus and composition. It's a work in progress which proved rewarding so far, even if the results are far from being stellar.

To which I can add the fact that neither am I a professional photographer nor do I have any incentive to learn to become one. Taking shots of my watch in the morning while I drink my coffee is pretty much all that I do, and I'll continue to do so as long as it remain a fun activity which doesn't devolve into work.

It's really impressive to see how well every small detail on the crown is captured, down to every single speck of dust left on the bezel.

The Superman is a great watch to shoot because of the details on the crown locking mechanism and the crispness of the gilt dial with the surrounding bezel that adds a nice touch of Bordeaux red. It's a really pretty watch that is nicely packed into a vintage looking case.

To which I can add that the weave of the MN strap as it's captured on the macro lens is very interesting to see on close ups.

Not only am I a mediocre photographer, I'm also a liar because this wrist shot was done with the G12. The RP with its massive lens is simply too heavy to hold with one hand and I could not bother adjusting the tripod and timer to catch a good shot.
