I'm sorry to be a bother, but can you please tell me what's the time?

There's a big bag of tricks awaiting the fresh entrepreneur starting his first business and stumbling upon the first main roadblock on its way to success (aka customers and their pesky demands). The one that work the best and therefore is seldom used is called "expectations management" and the failure to use it properly is among the main reasons why new businesses fails so often.

CIGADesign obviously reached very far into this bag because I never expected to be able to read the time on the Z Titanium and therefore I was not disappointed when it turned to be completely useless as a proper watch.

Image

I bought mine as a curio and also because I thought that a nicely skeletonized watch was going to be interesting to own, and it did.

What I didn't expect is how well made the Z is. It's titanium case meet and match the huge curved sapphire almost seamlessly and the movement itself is supported by an intricate web of bridges and struts spanning the top where a dial would be in a standard watch.

Image

The detail on the "chapter ring" are also very well executed and even the highest magnification of the macro lens on the Canon RP can't find any defect with the workmanship.

Image

The lack of legibility seems more like a conscious decision rather than a mistake. Maybe something that was done to focus my eyes on the movement inside rather than on the time. It's only the lack of decoration on the movement that is a bit of a down.

Image

It does wear very large on my wrist, and it's hard to read the time due to the nature of a skeleton watch and the large glittery sapphire on top. But who cares as long as it continue to be such a fun watch to wear.

Watches whose main purpose is t telling time are a particular pet peeve of mine, but I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I can see that, even in decorated, being able to watch a watch do its business is an interesting thing.

Beyond business I think "expectation management" is one of the biggest issues many people deal with.

I remember a boss many years ago harping on the idea that as leaders one of the hardest and most important jobs was managing the expectations of your troops.

Speaking of expectation management... Where is the shot of the coffee? 😂

Neither cat nor coffee? What has the world come to?

·

That’s an impressive looking watch, I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at their pricing!!

·

I had one of those and was also impressed with the quality, and could live with the readability issue, but I gave it up after becoming annoyed at the tiny click sound the auto wind movement makes after the rotor stops! Too much 💔

The red espresso cup is lurking in the background. Sadly, my titanium cup was KIA when it fell in the kitchen a few weeks ago.

SmallCat is happy that the sun is out and wen to do "cat's things" on its own.

Yes, the movement is a bit noisy. It doesn't bother me thought.

I like it 👏🏻👏🏻

Good for you mate, it is a smart looking watch and conversation starter I found, I even bought a few extra straps for a look change. can see why Ciga got a design award for it👌

·

Actually, I think readability isn't too bad!

·

Until you posted the shot from the back I had never realized that the case had gaps on either side. That would seem to be the perfect place for lint and worse to collect. It is novel.

·

Ciga Design is a cool company doing really interesting things. Unfortunately they've been largely lumped in with the "Chinese homage AliExpress" brands. It seems that may be starting to fade though, and I'm glad I like the brand. Cool watch, I dig it

You have no idea how much I had to contort myself and play with the polarizing filter on the camera to get a few decent shots.

Unfortunately you are correct about the gaps sucking in lint and dust, fortunately this is exactly why God in his infinite wisdom invented the dust brush.

TBH I was was very impressed by their packaging. I've never seen it done like that before and it's very well made.

I may not like their choices for skipping on decorating the movement or letting the hands blend in too much, but one thing for sure is that they have solid ideas on how to design their watches and they are not homaging anyone.

Good point, they even did that globe watch recently in black and gold, wow !

I have a ciga x series and reading the time requires concentration but I can’t fault the quality

This is one of the most refreshing statements I have read on here in a number of months. I think what you have demonstrated here is a level of understanding and clarity that many lack, and that really needs to introduced. The watch is an exercise in design - the legibility and practicality have been sacrificed to demonstrate that CiGa can make a watch. The fact that you bought it with this in mind, and you wear it regardless, and actually fucking enjoy wearing it speaks more volumes than 95% of content on here.

·

You share the exact same opinions I have on it🍻

Exactly. What's the point in buying watches if you don't enjoy wearing them to death?
