What’s the best strap for a rose gold watch?

So I recently bought this Tag Heuer WAS2151 which has a rose gold bezel and rose gold applied arabic numbers… and it got me thinking…

What would be the best strap color/material to pair it with?

A leather racing strap, maybe?

Help me out here please!

Soft brown leather, mid tone. I do not think a racing or rally strap would be befitting of that dial. I have a few strap makers, but for this going with the ol’ reliable folks at Tuns Leather. No affiliation, but have many of their straps (for a reason) and think either of these would go great. Hard to beat getting a custom strap for about $50.

Personally I like rose gold with a brown leather strap. Either vintage or shiny depending on what I'm wearing.

I would suggest that the best strap for that watch would be one that really compliments the dial and the case. Gold, steel, no matter. I think of the strap as being a frame for the watch; something that never overwhelms the dial but rather gives the dial an opportunity to speak to you.

That dial has a nice stamped guillochet pattern and great applied numerals. I would suggest (here I’m going to talk about a company I get my straps from: TUNS Leather. Bypass Etsy and use their site: even better prices) a nice “waxy leather” in a natural brown, a bison strap in the reddish brown (looks good with gold) or perhaps a very soft colour? Maybe you want pale blue or light green/turquoise or a yellow?

Pro tip: take your watch to a wall of paint samples and pick out the colours that seem to work. Take quite a few, but don’t make the mistake of confusing yourself with choice. Go home. Relax. Ponder your choice(s) at leisure! Have fun!

I would definitely avoid NATO or rubber or anything of that type for that watch. Lots of people are crazy for NATO straps and fair go to them but they really aren’t a perfect solution for all pieces.

I wish you luck on your quest! I still have watches that I play ‘strapfiddle’ with. It’s part of the deal I guess!

Much the same idea! Ha! I love Tuns’ straps! Cheers!

I think with its bright dial brown or beige.

Might want to try a brown ostrich leather. Check Hamilton or Rios 1931

I didn’t know Tuns Leather, thanks for that… I checked them out and they have amazing options… no wonder why you recommend them. $50 for a leather strap is more than reasonable!

Thanks! I just made a “test” with a matte brown strap I have for a Hamilton, will have to check a shiny one to see… probably both will work, just on different ocassions.

This was INCREDIBLY insightful, thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed answer. I love my nato straps, however there’s just no way it would work here…. That idea of taking the watch to a wall of paint samples is just genius. Will probably begin to do that often.

Considering you took the time to write this, it makes nothing but perfect sense that you also recommended to take the time to ponder the options…

Having to fight over multiple choices really is part of the enjoyment I get out of this hobby! I find it fascinating… having a budget is the (relatively) easy part, even when you have to save money over a long period of time… the hard part is to finally make a decision. But it’s so enjoyable in my opinion…

Thanks again! And happy collecting!

I checked Rios 1931. Cool stuff there, beautiful.

I think ostrich is underrated. Provides very cool patterns and textures. Thanks!

Plus awfully comfortable and almost no break in time. When it does it conforms to the wrist well too!
