Please also say if you have opinions regarding quartz or mechanical chronograph reliability

my chronos are with but one exception, of the meca-quartz variety and are as reliable as logs and astonishingly accurate! even my fully quartz Edifice chrono is smack-on accurate come to think of it!

Even a budget quartz or meca-quartz chrono (say the VK64) are very reliable, really no different than a full digital G-shock in my experience using both for timing runs/cycling. Maybe for super high-precision sports where hundrenths count you could have an issue but 99.9% of people will be peachy

I've owned an Omega Speedmaster since 2013, which I wear every week.

No problems with reliability or accuracy, -2s/d.

The watch has never been serviced.

Thanks. I'm leaning toward the Seagull or a meca-quartz

Do your meca-quartz watches feel a lot better than the Edifice or is the pusher operation not a big deal to you?

Both varieties (full quartz & meca-quartz) feel fine to me ... I really don't use the pushers to tell you the truth ... chronos for me are mostly an aesthetic preference! LOL!! 😀 😎

I wore a Timex quartz chrono daily for years with no issues. Didn't really have ANY problems from it until the running second hand rusted off its pinion due to moisture ingress because the mall watch store that changed the battery kinked the gasket. It still runs but it breaks my heart a little to wear it crippled.

I also had a mall guy ruin a watch. In my case it was a 30 year old Rafa with sentimental value. Been shying away from batteries ever since.

If you have an independent watchmaker nearby, they'll replace batteries for you. Replacing batteries are pretty much their most common service request. I trust them a lot more than jewelry store employees.

They're often pretty interesting to talk to, as well. I visited a local guy here when I needed a bracelet sized because it required two screw drivers. I talked to him for like an hour, and when I pointed out that he told someone on the phone that bracelet sizing was $20, which he had yet to ask me for, he said, "don't worry about it."

A, it is a more complexity, so more parts, more points for failure, the same as life.

I have 6 quartz, and 1 mecha-quartz chronographs and they are as accurate as my 3 quartz 3-handers. No issues whatsoever!!

I think I'll try a quartz chrono. About two years ago I saw a documentary on Bowie that he participated in. I don't remember the title but I liked it a lot and suspect you would too if you didn't see it yet.

I only want at most 2 mechanical chronographs because of the maintenance costs
