Is Etsy a good place to buy watch?

I am a newbie in this watch world and I am thinking of buying an cheap/reliable/good beginner watch . I looked up on Amazon, Flipkart, eBay but mostly I was not convinced by the price or not able find a watch I am looking for. But in Etsy there are lots of cheap automatic watch form big name brands . So is Etsy a good place to buy watch?

No those are all fraken watches. The orients that cost over $250 from UK sellers are real though

·

The Oris and hmt are all fake on Etsy. Any of the main brands that are in small cases under $100 are all fraken

·

Not the best place if you know little about watches. Lots of junk amidst the legit deal;s.

·

If you want replica/homage better look at AliExpress. Brand like SeeStearn, San Martin, Addiesdive and a lot more

·

Negatory - Etsy not a trusted place for watch purchases. Lots of red flags.

·

Didn't Etsy use to be for vintage or handmade goods (and some craft supplies)? When did they lose their focus? Anyway, the guy I got my Pobeda from sold Soviet watches on Etsy as well as Ebay and Amazon. That's all I know.

·

God no. It’s a minefield of fakes!

Where to buy then ?

Don't trust etsy for the watches themselves (either fake or franken) but it is a lovely place to get unique straps.

The safest places

ADs and Boutiques

Certified Pre-owned or Refurbished through ADs and Boutiques . . . lots of these have Chrono24 accounts.

Chrono24 . . .but do your homework and use common sense with private sellers. There are some safe guards at Chrono24 but still . . .

Ebay accounts with good and plentiful reviews and authenticity guarantee

I'd avoid Jomoshop and Aliexpress if you're looking at watches above a few hundred dollars.

Don't be afraid of buying used in very good condition. In some cases a dude tried on the watch and sold it immediately at a loss.

Etsy I'm afraid is the wild west, full of fakes, franken watches with misleading descriptions. Yes they're are some good watches on there, but please research the model your looking at (and the seller) and if its really really cheap compared to other sites and sellers, steer clear. If you know what you like or want no harm in asking on here (not for direct sales) but us folks might be able to direct you to the best place to get your watch from (personally had a lot of good watches off ebay)

Oh, didn't realize this would be your FIRST watch. Yeah, I'd probably go new for your first. That's a nice feeling and you won't have to navigate various things I mentioned. That said . . . I think my pt still stands otherwise. "Used" is a funny term in watches and sometimes it's gonna be your best bet for a combination of price and "like new" condition (this perhaps becomes truer with more expensive watches). One person's mistake or fickle taste is your gain.

Yes . . . non-original parts, fake/poorly made parts, and parts that simply don't belong on the watch if you're worried about authenticity. I've seen the posts you're talking about on Etsy. None of those watches are real if that's something that you're concerned with. There's a sleight difference between a complete rip off that is trying to fool a buyer and a watch company that is not hiding the fact that they are ripping off a design for profit.
