I would buy a G shock for major events in my life. The first one on the left is a DW 5400. I bought it when I was in the US Army back in the mid 80's . I think around 1985 before I went to helicopter flight school in 1988. The green dot on the glass was a requirement for all pilots to wear . It was called a "safety dot". The idea was that we look at our watches numerous times a day and subliminally see the dot and think of being "safe" in what we do. They claimed that the accident rate dropped after wearing the dots. I did replace the band and bezel. Casio service said it was a rare and older G shock because it had a gold buckle and gold lettering instead of white.
The second watch DW 5600E was from when I entered the NYPD Academy in 1992. Used it every day until I joined another police department (that paid much better) in 2003.
Then in 2019 I bought the GW 9110 Gulfman. It had the tides and moon and just looked rugged. Now I am hooked on the Invicta pro divers.
Can someone post a photo of what the very first released G-Shock watch looked like. I think they were the 5200 series.

Gotta get a casioak and a triple graph DW6900 in the mix!
Hiya Rick.
I enjoyed your G-Shock story! The green dot explanation was fascinating! Who knew it’d reduce flying accidents.
The first G-Shock was whats commonly known now as a Square. It was the DW-5000 with a screw back case.
