Visit at the antique shop

Hello fellow Crunchers!

Today I went with my family to an antique shop where we found some great watch related things, that I want to share with you. Amongst other things we found some watches advertisements from old times, a Seiko watch cabinet and Mickey Mouse watches. Have a great weekend and a nice evening!

Cheers 🍻!

I honestly never thought to look through the ephemera section, so thanks for the tip.

The watches shown all show different times. Sold as is, or just without working batteries?

There weren't really many watches there. Basically there were only the ones I have pictured and one or two more but nothing special. I didn't ask if the clocks worked but I assume that the battery just ran out.

It's the same dynamic at the nearest place by me. It's a total mystery if the things work, will be made to work at purchase, or are totally as is. I totally understand not popping new batteries in watches that may sit on display till they run out, but the ambiguity annoys me.

Similarly the selection tends to be a bit subpremium and geared toward the kitschy and pop cultural. I'd assume anything more recognizably collectible gets liquidated elsewhere.

Yes, you are right. The shop is not really oriented towards watches but rather towards all kinds of other stuff. You can get furniture, dolls, toys and so on. If you're looking for nice vintage watches, then you really have to look elsewhere.

How cool would it be to buy that Seiko display case for your collection?

I actually had exactly the same thought. But since I actually want to limit my clock collection to about 6 in the future, I thought it would be rather counterproductive if I bought such a huge cabinet...😂

Antique and bookstores are well known traps for me.
