Aqua Terra running at +/- 0 seconds post service.

I posted a few months back about how my 9 month old Aqua Terra was having issues so I sent it in for service. For the first 8.5 months I owned this new watch purchased from an AD it gained about 2.5 seconds a day. But this past May it suddenly began to lose about 2 seconds per day. I made sure it was fully wound, rested it in a few different positions, but it kept losing time.

Since this is a METAS certified movement, and a new watch, that didn’t work for me so I took it to my AD and he sent it in for inspection. A few weeks later (nearly a month) they said the watch needed a full service, which was covered under warranty. And it would take another two months…. They also claimed it was magnetized which I found surprising. Still not sure I know what the actual Issue was.

I was less than thrilled that I’d be without the watch for 3 months, but I wanted it fixed.

I picked it up earlier this month on my way to a beach vacation, and have been wearing it pretty often since getting it back. I’ve had it back for 10 days now, and am shocked at the fact that it is performing PERFECTLY. It has not deviated by a single second in 10 days.

I’m probably going to jinx myself by even “speaking” my excitement to the watch universe, but I am extremely happy.

But it makes me wonder, do watches tend to perform better and be more accurate after a service compared to when they are purchased new and likely just off the manufacturing line? Obviously this wouldn’t (I don’t believe) apply to hand made and assembled watches. But for companies like Omega, Tudor, Rolex, etc. who largely manufacture their pieces, do/can hand servicing and adjustment really make that much of a difference on performance?

Either way, I am beyond thrilled to have my watch back, and to have it running perfectly. 🙂

It shouldn't have been magnetized. Because of their silicone hairspring they have extreme resistance to magnetism. Also, the Ad should have been able to demagnetize it without sending to Omega if it was magnetized. Did they say there there were other problems? If not I don't think you got an accurate answer.

They said they noticed low amplitude, signs of magnetization, and some “wear” on the case. It felt like a canned response to all inquiries to be honest. I read a few articles on some forums about issues Omega was having with a lubricant they use in their movements. Based on the performance problems mentioned by others in those posts my guess is my watch was having the same issues.

How do you measure the watch’s accuracy? I’m becoming more interested in knowing how my watch is running, particularly my METAS Speedmaster.

I use the very scientific method of noting the exact time (on the notes app on my iPhone) I set my watch to an atomic clock then tracking the daily deviation from there.

There are many watch timekeeping apps on both iOS and Android. You mark when your watch hits a certain time, then do it again at a later point. Simple math tells you the rate your watch performed during that interval. I use Watch Tracker on my iPhone.

That's some mad accuracy for an auto, on a beautiful watch too

I love the silver/white dial with the orange accent. My favorite AT color combo for sure.

Does anyone knows if there is a similar app for Android devices ? I looked and I could not find one.

My new Speedy gains 2 seconds/day.

Send it in for an early service 🤣

If mine would have stayed at gaining 2 seconds a day I would have been super happy with and and never thought twice about it. But once it started losing 2 seconds a day I knew something was wrong.

Hopefully yours keeps up the good work for years to come!!

Well, we will see. Had it 5 months.

What a beautiful watch. A little playflul but still settle enough to be taken serious.
