Functional Packaging, yay or nay?

Which do you prefer? Single use boxes used as packaging, or something more functional?

This is our take on the best “do-it-all” travel case, capable of carrying your travel essentials as well as providing safe transport for your watches! And the best part? All new Oceanguard GMT models will come with this one of a kind, custom leather packaging included!

I'd rather be charged for the watch and minimal, quality packaging, and then spend money on some functional item of my choice. I don't need a bundle where I'm charged for a carrying case I didn't choose, or even say I wanted, in order to buy a watch I want.

If it has to be nicely & distinctively packaged (for branding purposes, it probably should be), I'd prefer a travel case, but eventually I'd have "too many" of those as well.

All things being equal, I'd get more use out of a travel case than a box, though.

I guess it really depends on how many watches (and boxes/cases) a person wants to own. Or be owned by.

Hi there, thanks for the comment! You bring up a great point! Luckily enough, our prices not only reflect what you’re describing (and are set regardless of the packaging) but are extremely competitive, especially when considering everything that is included with a purchase! So rest assured you’re getting a high quality watch plus bonus, functional quality packaging!

Thanks again for the comment and hope all is well on your end!

If you can make it a negligible increase over what could've been charged with regular packaging, then something that doesn't get thrown out can be a bonus. Frankly, I didn't look at your packaging, prices, or the watch. I just answered the subjective question.

I think the answer depends on the brand and is based on the demographic of their consumer.

Me personally, I would gladly buy a $10k watch that came in bubble wrap and a shoe box if I felt like I was getting something more out of the watch in return. However, there’s a reason almost every luxury brand, even outside of watches, has nice packaging.

I really like those red Cartier boxes. I don’t know what I’d do with them but I’d like one

·

Depends. I couldn't careless about packaging on a budget watch. But for luxury watches? Now that's a different case.

·

Depends on the watch. If it’s luxury, meaning $4k+, I want a nice box. I just feel like it elevates the experience. Omega is best at this, imho. Those boxes are very nice.

The Rolex box is rubbish. I had the temerity to write to Rolex with some suggestions, but they basically told me to piss off.

These have been almost exactly my thoughts from buying San Martin watches recently.

They do make a nice box but I can’t help but chuckle to myself about that one Bond Seamaster 300 that came in like a full box within a briefcase

Yeah, the Bond ones . . . I don't see the premium price on these. But those wood cases, standard ones, are quite nice!
