I absolutely love this watch but wonder about the value/price

I tried this on today and I love this time piece.

I think the design is flawless, calming, cool and perfect for what it's intending to be.

However the MSRP of $9.5k seems really high to me (although when I compare with its closest competitor which is the top gun from IWC I find the price more than fair relative to the IWC; I find it far superior in every respect).

But still I'm torn.

And because of the strap material it is one I wouldn't want to get used.

What do you guys think?

At $6.5k I'd instantly buy it. Even with a discount at $8.5k it feels high..

I’m waiting for it to hit the grey or used market

Saw it at my regular ad a few weeks ago, such a nice design, felt the MSRP was high but in line with other high prices being listed by competitors these days. Very attracted to ceramic lately but could not justify spending so much more this year. I suspect there will be several price increases before I can ready my finances so for me this will be another pass due to its price. Just another watch, life goes on.

That watch...

It's only money, and it ain't like you can take it with you when all is said and done!

·

I’ve tried this on in both steel and ceramic. Absolutely love it. But you’re right, the price is £1500 above what I’d be willing to pay.

Haven’t asked for a discount yet but I doubt they’d give that much anyway.

Not me but my daughter yes lol

I love zenith. Great watches. This is in that category. The price is fair imo

This is funny, my ad sells many brands as ad, Zenith is one mostly sought after by enthusiasts only with the exception of the ceramic Chronomaster sport in both white and black dials. He tells me quite a few regular customers for the the model would buy the watch despite only a courtesy discount available but are hesitant due to the PILOT on the dial.

·

Although I like some omegas I don't find the brand as a whole classy or tasteful (their bracelets for example are a huge turn-off for me; also a lot of models I do like are too big which strengthens my opinion of their lack elegance).

So if you tell me this is comparable to omega from a pricing standpoint that's actually a huge selling point in favor of zenith for me. 😀

I like the dark side of the moon and it's $14k, a lot more than this one even though I think I like both kind of equally (I think this Zenith is more elegant and dressy than the dark side but the dark is a very cool looking chrono).

Thanks a lot for sharing those pics.

It looks like the steel one is actually really nice too (I wanted to try it on but they didn't have it). And $2k cheaper.

What's your opinion between the 2? Do you feel like one is actually significantly better than the other?

One aspect of price and value here also is timelessness. I feel like steel is more timeless and can go with more straps? Which also means long term value may be more?

Vs the black ceramic watches with those black straps look freaking cool, but would you wear them if you're 70? Or would you want to buy one that is pre-owned (somehow I don't whereas I wouldn't have a problem buying a pre-owned steel or gold watch)?

·

Beautiful watch! I hope you can get it for a price you find agreeable! 👍

·

Yea actually I even prefer the Zenith to the Omega even though the omega is an extra 5k.

I do really like that dark side of the moon to be clear. But that should tell you how much I like the Zenith lol.

Actually I kind of like the "pilot" part lol

Too funny!

My 10 year-old daughter and I were driving around the other day, and she made the following observation:

"You know, dad, you have some pretty good stats. Like, you're smart, you have a really good job, you make good money... but, you only have this tiny house and the only nice thing you own is your sports car. This got me thinking. I used to think that I would be super rich, and that I would have a giant mansion with an indoor pool, and a sports car, and diamonds and everything I wanted. But, if even with your stats, you don't have all that, I guess that probably means I won't when I'm 22 either."

My god, this is what we've raised...

Image

But, unbeknownst to her, she and her sister are gonna probably end up being super rich no matter what we or they do! Our entire family tree, all the grandparents, all the great aunts and uncles, ALL their uncles and aunts... everything funnels down into those 2 kids, and the entire extended family has done well for themselves!

Whenever I say to my wife, "There is no way I'm paying for college. I don't want them to go to college. They can live at home and work." My wife will say, "Uh... they're going to inherit so much money, I don't think you'll have any say in anything!"

·

Lucky for you zenith tends to take a huge plunge in the grey market you can find nice new pieces anywhere between $1,500 and $4,500 under retail depending on the model

I think the trick is to find a balance between setting up our kids so they're secure from a financial standpoint while still giving them an incentive to work and do well for themselves at least so they can feel fulfilled, free and also not entitled.

It's cheaper but not by much and you don't get papers..

At 6k ok, at 7.5k that's too close to AD without those papers..

Yes I did like the steel version a lot. But I feel the contrast on the black case with the white markers and text makes much more of a statement and give the piece more presence.

Personally I’d never spend £8.3k on it. Or even £6.7k for the steel. But the way prices are going nowadays I don’t even blame them for pricing it so high.

I just don’t think this new pilot took the world by storm how Zenith probably hoped it would and I think the pricing is the main reason. Otherwise it’s a fantastic watch I’d love to own.

·

I also like the watch very much but at this price without bracelet is quite steap, no matter how much IWC ( over ) charges for their models. From both models I would opt for SS as it looks better and is more timeless. Would love to see this one in brushed or blasted titanium. Also the line at 6 oclock position is not my cup of tea. Wait a bit/be patient as Zenith hits quite hard on secondary market but not yet on this as it is new model, hence also don't count on huge discount at AD. Since majority of their models are not getting the ( deserved ) love it should depreciate soon.

And on your Omega bracelet comment IMO new speedy bracelet is miles ahead chronomaster or chronosport, those bracelets are disgrace, not doing justice to these wonderfull watches.

·

Time to wait and pick one up preowned later for a big discount.

I got a couple of wrist pictures of both which I added.

The steel one looks really really good too and at least that's a lot more timeless than the ceramic.

Jomashop has it at $6k (~4.8.k pounds).

Would you get it at that price?

I have timeless covered with my DJ and Santos. This would be my ‘enjoy for a while and then move on’ category. But at the prices listed I’d lose way too much money.

At £4.8k I definitely think I’d consider it very seriously, but I only like buying from an AD. No resellers or preowned unfortunately.

·

We all assign a perceived value to a watch, as well as other things. When the price greatly exceeds this perceived value we have great difficulty accepting the price as reasonable. That’s me anyway. Same feeling about Zenith no matter what their history. Same with IWC.

Right.

Here it is less about the brand and more about the type of watch.

This watch is awesome but it's not a timeless piece like a steel or gold watch so it fits more the category of fashion than jewelry.

As such it becomes a much more expensive item compared to a timeless piece which you can see lasting forever and being passed down.

I really like Zenith. I don't think the price is wrong. I just think this watch is in a different category than those timeless watches which I find justification for a price like this.

If I was rich then I'd instantly buy this because I think it is priced right and I can afford it.

Here I feel like it would be more comparable to buying a $7/8k jacket.

But I say that and when I see the steel one I question that statement. Maybe it can be a timeless piece. I'd need to see it with a leather bracelet. If it looks good on a leather bracelet then I'd see it as a lasting piece of jewelry and now I would be ok with spending that kind of money on it.
