Nope. I tend to buy what I like, and don't put in any rules about what I should or shouldn't get.
I buy what I like. Right now I am gonna think twice about a chronograph since I have 3-4 already but that would depend on the watch

I've only been collecting for about a year and have 10 watches. And so far it's been primarily buy what I like. Now I'm starting to look at other things. For example I wanted to get a German watch, so I ended up with a Union Glashutte, which I love. I'm also considering getting a moon phase. I'd also really like something with an El Primero movement so want a Zenith at some point. But I also don't want to get something that I don't like, or won't wear just to add to the collection. It absolutely has to be functional for me.
I have a hard cap of 10 watches so I was intentional about having a diverse collection. I like having as many different brands and styles as possible.

How many watches before you felt this way
I buy what I like but I do keep track of how the collection is trending. I’m very dive watch heavy right now but I keep looking at dive watches. I’d love to say I have a well rounded collection but the right models have to come up at right time at the right price if anything is going to change.
