Old watches I had forgotten about

Going through my old watch junk, I came across two 35mm items from my past.  The engraving on the back of the Timex Electric shows it must have been a grade school graduation gift from my dad.  When shaken, the movement can be felt and heard rattling against the case. Crown is not on the edge, but on the back. Crystal has a bad crack on one edge.  The Nigedo is a hand-wind movement, probably ETA, from the 1960s.   My wife says that she can remember me wearing it.  It has a brass case and runs fast.

I haven’t been able to find any info on Nigedo.  If you know something, please chime in.

Chances are that when I bought my first new Seiko quartz as a young man, in my mind everything else became instantly obsolete.

Nigedo was founded by Gedeon Nicolet (NI GED O, based on his name) in Trammelan, which is a French speaking part of Switzerland. The brand was registered in 1954 but may have been in business for decades before that.  The company went out of business in the 1970's.

There is still a Nicolet SA in Trammelan that sells watches under the name Armando Nicolet. There must be a family connection somewhere in the deeper past.

Thank you for that!  Great information.  I left the Nigedo with my watchmaker for service and regulation; the Timex he said is not even worth looking at.  He described it as a “keepsake” because of the memories it evokes.  I wonder how many times a year he has to say that to customers.

Timex are great watches once.. but thats it. The Swatch of yesteryear.

That's a really cool Timex, a bit weird, but you gotta like that "electric" on the dial!

They were once really good watch but could not reach to the Bulova Level.
