I’m kinda shocked that there haven’t been any of two of my favorite comments in this thread. The bad: (places picture of another GMT or blue watch next to this picture) “I wonder where that design came from…”. And then the one that makes me chuckle from seeing again and again… “looks like Watch A had a baby with Watch B…” (my favorite was milgaus plus explorer 2😂).
I own the CW and love mine. It’s a bit more orange (burnt Siena?) than the others you’re looking at. It’s beautiful, and wears easily with a dress shirt and a T-shirt.
I know! It’s like a Frankenstein of numbers from one watch and font from another… and of course since it’s from the 40s, it’s not like you can find it in the catalog so easily. The optimist in me says this is such an unusual dial that it would be strange for someone to try to fake it… Maybe? 😬
Looking like it ‘wants‘ to be from the 1945-1955 range, related to the Air King— refs 4499 or 6652… but… none have the words rolex and oyster on the same line. Hmmm… I’ll go back and see if I see a serial # tomorrow, and maybe they’ll open up the case to look inside.
Thanks. I had seen a couple of air king references online from that era that have these types of numbers, especially with the smaller zero in the number 10. But none of them that I saw just say rolex oyster.
