Seiko Tuna Help needed!

Hi Crunchers!

Lately I’ve been bitten by the Tuna bug but I can’t decide which model to get or should I get it at all??

I’ve got a 6.5” wrist but apparently the Tuna wears quite well for smaller wrist due to the short L2L. As a Seiko diver fanboy, it’s one of those diver that I am keen to have due to the robustness of the design, the accuracy of the 7C46 movement and the historical lineage of a Seiko diver.

The 2 models that I’m currently looking at are the SBBN007(circa 2000s), right of picture above and the SBBN031 (2015 onwards), left of picture. The 007 looks more toolish and the 031 more modern, it is a more modern model after all😅.

I’m worried that the 007 with the broader bezel might wear big for my wrist. As these are discontinued modes I’m unable to try them on.

Any Seiko fans here that can provide some useful insights on the differences of the 2 models? Wearability, maintenance issue or anything else that may help in my decision making? Btw, The price differences are not that great between the 2.

Thank you in advance!

That's a tough one. Both are really nice. At first I thought 031 100%... But then I started to look at details and can't decide. Maybe 007 has more details to look at on the dial and 031 is more of an overall looker?

007 on a bracelet and I think you have a winner!

I'm leaning 007 because the bezel matches the case; which, in addition to the smaller L2L the Tuna's are known for, would help allow it to wear smaller on a 6.5" wrist. IMHO of course. YMMV.

For comparison, I have an SRPH77K1 (Mini Tuna, 43mm diameter & L2L) on a 7.5" wrist.

My SNE497, Solar Tuna. When new, it came with a SS bracelet and a black plastic shroud. Yobokies make a stainless shroud if you prefer. It's only 200m WR so not as hard core as the models you're eyeing up but it's "only" 45.5mm. Also, the bezel is lumed from 0 to 15 minutes, which is unusual for Seiko and very cool. 😎

That was what I was thinking too. The solar Tunas are quite cool and the size makes it easier to wear. Yeah the SS shroud does take the watch up a notch! 😅

Never knew about the lume on the bezel. Lume shot? 😍
