Watch for Boyfriend's Birthday

Hi, my boyfriend collects watches and I'd like to get him one for his birthday. I was going to go with Movado until I stumbled upon a post on this site that said they aren't good watches. Can you please provide some options that are priced similarly to a Movado? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Such a sweet sentiment! Its so hard to say because watch collectors go in different directions with preferences. Do you know what brands he has now?

·

Hey! What style/brands does he already like..?

As @Lauren said, buying an enthusiast a watch can be difficult.

If you’re into personality type tests - my “Love Language” for gifts is a ZERO, and my wife knows I hate gifts from others. 🤷 That being said, perhaps get him a watch accessory or perhaps a fancy strap for one of his watches?

Take him to a watch store and let him pick

I'm not sure what Movado charges these days, but I highly recommend the Vaer S3/S5. They come in at about $179 USD on a strap, and a bit more on a bracelet.

I have an S3, and absolutely love it.

If you're happy spending a bit more they also have a lot of other options as well, but it's hard to beat the value of the S3/5 line.

That said, whatever you pick, I'm sure the fact it's from you will mean more than the brand on the dial.

If you can sneak a picture of his current collection, or name a few brands/models he already owns, we may get a better idea of his tastes or the brands he likes to suggest some models that would make a great gift! 👍

Also a budget you feel comfortable spending!

We need more information in order to really help you out. 😃

Maybe rather than a watch he may not like maybe a new inscribed leather strap to him for a watch he already has.

Hey Tia! How awesome is it you joined to ask. I will be contrarian here. If he likes Movado, buy him a Movado. At the right price they are a solid pick. Do watch enthusiasts like them? Generally no, BUT we are the minority. The overwhelming number of folks (IE almost all of them) he will encounter will not know or care, but they will know what Movado is and likely compliment it. Ask him what style he prefers and go with that, never go wrong that way.
