I would like to introduce my two latest newcomers.
I have said to myself that I should be done with vintage watches, but... here we go.
Both have a lot in common:
Made in 40s - early 50s
Not round shape
Sharing the same JLC caliber 438/4CW
Small seconds
Arrived with beautiful and very well matching leather straps
Of course, the straps are too short for my wrist ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Need to be servised
I have already friends begging me to sell to them ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
But they look completelly different!
So, the first one is ref 400-305.
14k yellow gold case.
Only a couple of mm shorter than my Reverso.
Very elegant, symmetrical and clean watch.
The second one is a so called Aristocrat model.
10k yellow gold filled case.
Due to its shape the watch got a nickname 'Grasshopper' - cannot agree more!
The case is really something... so weird and beautiful at the same time.
Have a good day!

Very nice indeed! Congrats โจ!!
That Grasshopper is something else indeed; i think it was only made for / sold in the US market?

Many thanks!
I believe so. I found online pictures in which the dials were only labelled LeCoultre, so, apparently only for the US market.
For me the Grasshopper is not even for wearing, but more about having it and enjoying with a smile.
Funky. Looks like the height of art deco with them and Hamilton battling it our for crazy cases and lugs
They are really cool yet classy.
This is my dadโs watch from the early 40s. A similar design to your first one, and a little less modern. Needless to say, it needs some cleaning up and servicing, too

Nice ๐๐
It looks like the watch under the link:

I am almost sure that the caliber is the same as in my watches.
A local jeweler told me it was a caliber 490. I might have missed that in your post
Yes, thatโs the one. It might be the model from a few years earlier. Thanks!

Then it should be an oval shape.
But anyway belonging to Reverso calibers range.
Ok. Without doubt they are the best things Iโve seen today. Both capture the essence of a time when La Couture was making horological art. Thanks for sharing I appreciate it

Many thanks for your feedback!

Here it is, and I guess this does resemble an oval shape. Had it looked at a few months ago. Gonna be pricey to have it cleaned and refurbished.

Hmmm.. for me it looks more like mine (438).
Check the markings on the spot I marked in red on one of mine.
You need to decide if you wish to invest into watch...
Definitely does. I wish my picture was clearer, because I canโt make out the writing in circled area. I might have to crack it open. Thanks for the help.
